Title: Corn/Grain cracker Post by BillyBushCook on Nov 25th, 2009 at 11:34am
I'm in the market for a corn cracker at the moment so I can crack the grain for my beers & buy in bulk,
The type I'm after is the ones with the two rollers turning in the opposite direction. Not a Ginder! Does not matter how old or young it is, nor if it is hand powered or have a motor attached, Just need to crack grain down to 1.5mm. Any ideas?? Cheers, Mick. |

Mick, It may be worthwhile keeping an eye out for Clearing Sales selling vintage/antique farm machinery. Years ago, belt driven grain rollers were commonly used by farmers to crack grain prior to feeding it out to their stock. Most of the rollers I have seen at these sales have been well sheded and are generally in good condition. A few years back, I picked up a very nice cast iron unit made in the 1940's by Jas Smith of Ballarat. |

Mick these are readily available through Indian whole salers, the reverse action mill stones are used to grind the flour for naan bread and other stuff, we have Indian chefs at work who got one of these things in, bu I wouldn't let them use it as it is non A.S compliant, with rotating machinery there was no emergency stop switch or no interlock cut out on the lid, but this is the direction that you need to pursue, talk to an Indian guy at an Indian shop.
