Title: Mt Coolon Post by Robbo on Jan 11th, 2010 at 7:24am
Heading out to Mt Coolon this morning for two nights to chase some yabbies. (red claw and bluies).
It's a gold mining town from the early 1900's and now not much more than a servo and a pub. (my kinda town.) Am taking my little lappie and telstra wireless so with a little luck I should be able to post photos of area and yabbies.(or lack of). Robbo |

Kicking back now having a beer with the big brother and can't log into my myspace to upload photos as I've got a new laptop. Will have to share when I get back.
Fingers crossed for the yabby pots in the morning after one of (or two) of Sooties ziploc omelettes. Robbo |

Back again now. Perfect weather, nice and cool at night (almost cold the first night).
Didn't do too bad on the Yabbies, about 4 dozen or so keepers plus kept some of the larger blue claw and boiled them up with the big nippers from the red claw. 1st mornings catch. Tay with a couple bigguns. Visited my Pops old hut where we spent many weekends as a kid. A bit rundown now. Came across this little fella in the old hut and was he ever cranky. Did some of Sooties ziploc omelettes for brekkie the first morning. (Bacon and Cheese) Awesome! I'll be using that again. And of course the Mount Coolon Hotel. Great old pub with heaps of character and memorabillia. They do burgers for lunch and have a pretty good dinner menu if your not keen on cooking after a long day. Tay made a friend with the barmaids horse, very quiet even though unbroken and Tay just couldn't stay away. Anyway stacks more photos you can check out here: http://cid-08e95cb8d6c389c6.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/Mt%20Coolon Enjoy Robbo |

Looks like a good trip mate. Some of those yabbies are rippers.
Taylor looks like she was having a ball. Isaak is really looking forward to catching up with her again. Jono |

I'm wondering the same about Hedlow Skip, may toss a few pots in for something to pass the time. As for cooking them I just boiled the little ones and nippers in salt water for nibbling on and the tails of the big ones are frozen awaiting Hedlow to be done as Creamy Garlic Yabbies a'la Robbo.
