has anyone bought a pre-seasoned co and cooked in it straight away? or is it better to give it another re-season ?

G'day Jack, I bought a Lodge Logic pre seasoned oven, cooked in it straight off and wasn't happy so seasoned it myself, now it's one of my nicer pots.

I have bought several new and used Lodge pots and always season them again before use.
Seems to work better that way.

Didn't have a choice with the 20" I got from Cabelas. I don't have an oven or barbie big enough and am not that experienced to do it on a campfire.
Saying that I've cooked in it a few times and haven't had any complaints yet.

If cast iron is new to me, I season it 3x.  

Pre-seasoning, just means keeping the rust off from foundry to the cook's home, IMHO.  It's quite thin as coatings go, but sure beats that old hard wax or whatever they put on cast iron to keep the rust off years ago.

I agree with LK.  Most of my Lodge ovens came preseasoned but it was very thin and didn't last long at all before I had to redo them.

Hi Michaelb,
After reading about the seasoning of c/a i decided to season it again the difference in colour was quite a bit different that was yesterday.
Well to day i tried it out and cooked something easy a damper well my critic is still alive to talk about. ;D ;D ;D ;D.

All my Lewis and Clarkes came lightly preseasoned, but I gave them a burst in the BBQ to top them off and they tuned out good.
