Title: Wooohoooo found a goodun Post by Saltbush Bill on Feb 15th, 2010 at 6:06pm
Got a phone call today from a bloke wanting to sell a camp oven.
Asked what it was......"A 20 inch Carron he said" :o :o How much is he gunna want for this was my first thought ...can I afford it :( :'( :'( Went to have a look at it and got a very pleasant supprise.....he was happy to sell for $250 :) :) :) Should be a good oven to cook in plenty of depth (almost 7 1/2 inches deep) and legs a bit over 3 inches.....plenty of room for coals / heatbeads Photos below........more to come soon when I get the old girl cleaned up :) SBB |

Stage one of the clean up is complete :) ... the big pot has been sitting in the molasses barrel for a bit over 48 hours .....got stuck into it this arvo with wire brush and the garden hose....a lot more rust came off than I expected. Found a bit of pitting in the bottom but nothing bad......also found Carron 20 inch written inside the lid.....very hard to make out but it is there.

A classic in anybody's language, SBB.
That pitting on the base could be casting bubbles ? I wouldn't hazard a guess as to its age but it is in good nick. pod |

That's come up good Rory
I particularly like the high domed lid. Great for a large roast. How tall is it from base to center of lid? Aart |

Ok here are the last few photos.....the job is done :)
It was a bit of a handfull trying to season this thing but finally got it done. Its probably still not seasoned as well as I would like but that will improve with use. Once it was seasoned I couldnt wait to try it out so headed to the Butcher and bought a mixed bag to try to at least partly fill it. one large leg of lamb, one small rolled pork, three shanks, two large pork spare ribs. Also added 8 spuds in foil. Still lots of room left :o :o SBB |

No need to look in the box PD ....ya welcome any time...just turn up. If I get to Broke it will definately be coming as a user and for show n tell. Might see how many sausage rolls will fit in it. TBF wrote on Feb 18th, 2010 at 10:15am:
Havnt measured it Aart but its gotta be at least 8 1/2 to 9 inches maybe more. skiproosel wrote on Feb 21st, 2010 at 2:48pm:
I try to use them all in turn Skip...cant see the point of letting them gather dust and turn rusty. SBB |
