That might be a goer.
May be well enough to travel by then.
(not well enough to be back at work)  ;D ;D

Good time of year to stand around camp fires.

Hi Muzza,

Just checking the site about whats doing and to let you know Russell and Topknot will be at Casino, rain, hail or shine.     I have looked at the site and it looks good.     It would be good if we could make a block booking together at Casino.

Having a good shoot,

Well I was looking forward to going to this Heritage/Camp Oven festival in Casino this weekend, organised with my sister a couple of months ago to come down this weekend and attend.
My sister lives in Casino so I thought that would be good, somewhere to stay and go and check the event  out. Get a phone call from her yesterday and she says there is a blurb in the local paper about the event, she says, the way I read it you have to be actually staying at the village to attend the event.
I think….No, that couldn’t be right…….surely. I said there is nothing on there web site to that effect. So I will give them a call to confirm…….Oh yes sir, you do need to be staying with us to attend this event, I think to myself WHAT THE!!!
It makes me wonder why you would advertise the event in the local paper, if you were a local would you go and book into the local caravan park just to go, maybe some would I don’t really know.
Will fire them off a stern email today and see what happens.
Cheers

We got in as visitors to see PD and Muzz n Judy last year. Just went to the front office and asked to get in.
Getting out later that night was a different matter :(   A huge electric security gate stopped us leaving and the office was shut for the night. We thought we were going to have to go looking for Muzz or PD to let us out.  In the end a bloke came along in a campervan (coming in) ..he had a security pass / card for the gate and let us out.
If theres no comp on I wont bother going over for a look this year.

Seems as though there has been some cofusion and the village not stating exactly on either there web site or newspaper advert.

See reply below:

Dear Paul,

We apologise for the confusion of the ad in the paper and absence of the condition of entry on the web site.

Entry into the park to watch the Camp oven display and listen to the Bush Poets is free and the public are very welcome.  However, to enter the competition you must be staying in the village.

Hoping you will be able to attend.

Thanks Lyn

Well we headed off to Casino over the weekend to have a look at the Heritage/Camp Oven turnout at CMAA, it wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be.

Intersting style of camp ovens, quite a few large ones made from truck rims that were quite inventive.

Ran into Salt Bush Bill at the Lismore markets on Sunday, pleasure to meet you Rory, next time I'm down I will take up that offer to come and have a look at your ovens.

I do have some pics of the day, I'm struggling to resize, if someone here would like to me email them the pics and resize them probably even post if you wish I'm happy to do so.

Cheers

Hi Carolyn,

Have replied to your PM and emailed pics to your address.

Nothing real exciting but a few pics anyway, you can probably tell by the pics of how many people were there, pics were taken on the Saturday when they were preparing for the dinner.

I hope they had a few turn up for dinner as they put a heap of food in the camp ovens, we opted not to pay the $22 per head and went home and had our own CO cook up.

Thanks Carolyn for looking after the pics.

Cheers

Paul

I don't really know whether many more turned up or not, we arrived at the peak time when they were preparing the nights meal.

I thought the guy doing the cooking could of probably spoke a bit more to explain what he was doing, there would have been lucky to be 40 to 50 people and I'm being coservative with that number.

We didn't stay too long, probably 15 to 20 mins then left.

Next year should be better with the competition events happening, may have to get some practice in and enter LOL  ;D

Cheers

Paul

Yep it was good to put a face to another name Paul? Pity we were both short of time. Hope you enjoyed the market....most visitors to town I talk to seem to think its a pretty good one with plenty of interesting stuff.
Give us a yell anytime ya down this way and maybe we can get together for a a bit of a cook up and a beer. Most weekends we work, but at least once a month we get one off. I dont know if its just me or not but I struggle a bit with calling a truck rim a camp oven. I guess the cooking style is the same but in my eyes its still a truck rim. Lets put it this way.....I wouldnt take up collecting different size rims that had been converted into camp ovens :-/

I'm with you 100% SBB, a means to an end but they ain't a camp oven.
BTW Did they award camp ovens as prizes and if so did they have "Casino CO Festival" on the lid ?
Good pics Paul, thanks for sharing.

PD,

There was no competition, just a poets day out and a "CO cooking demo", basically the bloke would cook up a feed and you pay $22 a head to eat, oh, but you must bring along your own plate, cutlery and cup if you wanted a drink.

They had mountains of food to be cooked, I hope more turned up after the food was cooked than what was there whilst being cooked.

Those rims could certainly hold some tucker though!!

Cheers

Paul

Those rims I was told actually belong to the CMAA in Casino and not the CO caterer. Apparently they were made in Brisbane he told me.

Cheers
