SOUTH BARWON LIONS CLUB
SOUTH AFRICAN
POTJIEKOS/CAMP OVEN COMPETITION 2010

Who may participate?

Any person from any cultural background, who loves to prepare food in the outdoors and share it with others (who do not have cooking skills), may enter.

What are the rules?

This is a fun day, so we keep it simple.

- Entrants have to prepare a main course meal in any kind of metal pot over an open fire or gas flame.
- Only fresh ingredients may be used to prepare the meal.
- Entrants may prepare ingredients at home, but no pre-cooked ingredients may be used.
- Entrants must be willing to share the meal with visitors and friends.
- Entrants may spy on fellow competitors without risk of prosecution – just remember you will be spied on.
- The meal has to be ready at the time indicated by the organizers. Each entrant will be given a time at registration.

What are the criteria for judging?

The majority of the judges will have no sense of taste after a few drinks, the criteria are simple.
- The food should taste:
o Good and give great pleasure, or
o Bad and cause indigestion.
- How was the dish presented?
- How big was the bribe offered to the judges?
- Is the competitor having fun?

Entrance fee:
- $10 per family: entrants & participants – proceeds towards the Gem Foundation, a Lions Club project

Who will be the judges?

The judges’ panel will be a mix of connoisseurs, novices, beer drinkers, wine flies and any other willing person the organizers find willing.

The judges’ decision is final and will not enter into arguments with losers and those with hurt feelings, but they will celebrate with the winner.

Warning

It is a day for those who want to have fun, prepare a meal with great skill and share it with every kind of person. If you plan to take this too seriously, you may walk away disappointed.
