Title: Painting ovens.

Painting Ovens. Yeah, I know, I've always cursed people who've painted their ovens especially when I've had to clean it off but several of my big pots, the 15", 16" and 17" needed reseasoning so I did the lids and the inside of the pots the usual way but painted the outside with Pot Belly Black, looks good and you can't tell the difference.

Interesting idea Pd, I have never thought of using Pot Belly Black on my ovens, do you get the smell of burning paint the first time you use them??? Would love to see some pics of the ovens you have done  :)

This post as PD's photo assistant.

Pic one is of tops of 15" Furphy, 17" Harding, & 15" Carron with seasoning on what you see.

Pic two shows the  17" Harding with stove blacking paint on the sides.

Now, this post is LK with LK's views.

I don't have as many pieces of ci as PD.  I counted.  18 (one in mail) ovens  or 19 with one waiting for me in Oz.  & about 10 10" to 11" stove top pots, lord knows how many frying pans, griddles, sizzle serves....

I believe in seasoning a bit over 200'C or below 425'F.  That 's cook the seasoning in, rather than burn it.  I use plant oil and I use my house oven.  Smell is not an issue.

I get a good hard shiny seasoning:

How many I'll collect is dependent on space available.  & I too live very close to salt water.  If I go outside right now, I willl hear fog horns.  I don't have to reseason because of where I live

Stove black paint is for this critter:

Conclusion:  PD needs a special room in his house for his ovens.

Or maybe he needs to reduce the # he needs to tend.
