I have a 6 Gallon Clark & Co Camp Oven that I am selling on eBay for anyone interested.

It needs some TLC but still has the original tinplate cover. The Diamond Registration mark reads November 13 1880.

I have included the Diamond Registration Table to read marks for Clark & Co marks between 1868 -1883 in the listing for anyone interested.

I am in Middle Park Melbourne.

I grew up in North West Gippsland (Benambra for anyone who knows it) which has great scenery, camping sites, treks and bushland. Camp Ovens were often used by the logging & shearing gangs.

Greg, I hope you don't mind me saying that you are asking a fairly unrealistic price for this boiler. I don't mean to offend you but in all my years of collecting I have never seen a 6 Gallon Clark boiler sell for that sort of money :o :o
I have a large collection of the Clark boilers and see them quite regularly at clearing sales and swap meets and the like and they generally can be picked up for under $100. I think you will find that the lid is not a Clark original lid for that particular style as well so that would also detract from its value. After selling quite a few camp ovens and the like on ebay i reckon the 99 cent listing always attracts much more interest than a fixed buy price, and generally you get better results at the end of the auction.

I am off to the swap meet at Bathurst tomorrow and among the cast iron I'm off loading, sorry, selling are three oval boilers in good condition with original lids, if I get anything close to $100 each (which I doubt) I'll be more than pleased.
The value of these oval boilers works in reverse, the bigger they are the lesser their value, the same applies to water fountains and to a degree camp ovens, take for example the 8" Furphy that sold recently on eBay for  $737.50,  20" ones don't bring that much.
As Astro says, that boiler is very much overpriced at $270 but who knows, maybe KD will bid ???

Having never had a collection as such it was interesting to hear your thoughts and experience. eBay can be a lottery either way but so far there have been several hundred looks, which is good start.

I am not sure of the lid either as it has been painted somewhere in the past. The Powerhouse Museum has a 1 1/2 gallon Clark's Boiler that is very similar in style and they seem to indicate that the tinplate cover on theirs is original although it may be from a later period. I'll let you know how it goes in any case. PD how did you get on at Bathurst - hope you had some interest and found new homes for the boilers.

I met up with PD in Bathurst and he sold a 5 Gallon Clark for $50, pretty well the going price for a boiler in good condition with original lid. As for the lid on the powerhouse museum boiler it has a raised section on the lid which is the same through all the Clark boiler sizes unlike yours without the raised section which indicates a different lid. Clark did have that style of lid on earlier cast boilers but the boiler had different ears on the pot not the style of the one you have listed.

Like me a lot of people a probably looking in amazment not necessarliy with interest to see if there is anyone out there silly enough to buy a boiler at such a ridiculous price, I've got mine lined up ready to list on ebay just in case, no offence Greg ;D ;D ;D

Greg, I took several cast iron items to the swap meet at Bathurst and was disappointed by the total lack of interest. As Astro says I sold an oval boiler to another collector but the two 12" Metters I had at $175 each barely got a look.
I put a "Wanted, old Camp Ovens" sign out the front and that caused a lot of interest with several blokes getting my phone number, been waiting for a call the last cupla weeks but so far nothing , sigh.  :'( :'( :'(

G'day Greg. Two water fountains have just come up on eBay, seller claims the first one, a 6 gallon , "Could be a Furphy " yeah, right.  He's got $425 on it so I sent him a message and told him he's dreaming on two counts, not a Furphy and he won't get anything like $425 but then again, you never never know.
As I've said before water fountains are like camp ovens, the smaller ones bring more than the bigger ones.
I have a nice 3 gallon Clark fountain with original lid and tap I bought at Bendigo last year for $80, not for sale, as you know they are too hard to come by, you've just gotta keep looking.
