Title: Evening All
Post by Mongoose on May 11th, 2011 at 8:38pm
Found the forum via MySwag. Been burning meat in camp ovens for years with mixed success. Our family camp 4-5 times each year around Victoria with a group of friends, and some how I have become the designated "Kitchen B1tch". My intro to camp ovens was in the mid 80's when I was living on King Island in the middle of Bass Strait. One of the locals was renowned for his Sunday Roasts - lovingly shot wild duck and pheasant, or crayfish and abalone from the briny. Only in season, of course...

Looking forward to learning from the Gurus!

Cheers,

Rohan.

Welcome Rohan,

I also have spent some time on King Island in the mid 80's. It's a great spot however while I was there it never ceased amaze me the large number of wild pheasant and turkey on the Island.

I also reckon the King Island golf course is one of the hardest links in Australia. One the par 3 holes required a pitching wedge from the elevated tee when an easterly wind was blowing and with a westerly wind you may require anything up to a No. 1.5 driver to reach the green. :D Even then if you chose right club to match the mean wind speed, you still had to weight the stroke to match either the ensuing gust or lull and if mistimed, the ball either fell short into the rough or overshot the green into Bass Strait.   :'( It was not unusual for some golfers to lose 12 balls on one hole. :o

Ah, memories. The golf course with 1 single tree on it - found my ball underneath it week in, week out!

That 19th hole was something special. Spent a lot of time in there...

Too right Rohan, she’s a great little golf course and the 19th hole was a real treat, what with convivial company, local cheeses and other delicacies on the bar ( the smoked eel was just superb), great beer and elevated panoramic views of the course in the foreground and Bass Strait in the background…....aaaaaahhh  HEAVEN  !!!
