Title: Where are they all?
Post by far kin fin on Jun 11th, 2011 at 9:29am
Anyone know of a good camping shop, preferably in Sydneys west that has a good range of co's and camp cooking gear?
Been to Anaconda, BCF and Ray's but these big mobs always seem to be missing the things your after and dont order anything in until it is ordered in bulk.
I want to upgrade my 9qrt to a 12qrt preferably with legs.

Also went to Barbecues Galore to have a look at a bead chimney, no luck there either, apparently they are being re-designed and the old ones are no longer in stock.

WHERE ARE THEY ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [smiley=banghead.gif]

Cheers Jez

G'day Jez.

You should be able to pick up a good old unnamed camp oven at a market or antique shop, a nice one will probably set you back about $100 but it is an investment and a joy to cook with, at least that's what I tell my missus.
As for the heat bead chimney they are not hard to make, an old 1 gallon tin with a few holes punched in the bottom will do the job, use a pair of multi grips to lift and empty it.
When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my old camp ovens for what I told her I paid for them.

I had every intention of making the chimney, just went to have a look at one too see how i could improvise.
Mate, I've told a few pork pies about the cost of some of the toys that I've bought over the years. I dont think we're alone there. ;)

Big W should have Heat Bead Starter Chimneys in stock.
About 34 bucks from memory.

Not worth mucking around with a paint tin which wont last long. (unless you use stainless fire flue)

Army desposal stores are well worth a look for good cook'n gear [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Cheers, mick.

Cheers Guys
Even the old disposal stores are getting rare these days. Hav'nt seen one in a while. (around my way anyway)
I know a good one on the way to my favorite fishing hole, but did'nt go this long weekend coz the weather forecast was predicting cold, wet and miserable.
"Good things come to those who wait"

Cheers Jez
