Title: My folding camp oven cooking stand
Post by jclures on Jun 12th, 2011 at 9:44pm
I have wanted to make a folding camp oven cooking table for a while, but a little different to what I have seen.

It will fold up to go in the trailer and have the wind guards built on, also a cast grate for the beat beads to sit on and a ash tray under it. Folding legs to support the camp ovens on, as some of my ovens don’t have legs.

It was not finished when I first I tried it out the other night, but I was keen to see how well it will work.

Some photos of it first trial

14” oven on the bottom cooking the roast, the10”warming for the dessert.

Now the 12” with the vegies on the 14” and the 10” on top.

Everything cooking with the 8” having the green vegies on top.

I can only tell how good it was as I forgot to take a photo, Roast beef, roast spuds, pumpkin, onions, sweet potato and mixed greens, with a sticky date pudding for dessert.

As I have now finished the camp oven stand, and I am happy with the result. I ended up making a heat bead chimney stand onto the side of it as well. This is removable and with a tray to hold any ash as well.

The finished stand with the ashtray.

It is quite compact when folded up. I will use a strap to keep it closed when travelling.

I used it again tonight but with only one 12” oven, the heat bead burn on the bottom was excellent, this is what I was hoping for by using the cast iron grill, and with at ash tray under it there was very little heat loss downward. I could actually hold my hand on the lower part of the stand frame without it being to hot at all.

Daryl the good thing it didn’t cost me much to make either, as all of the bits and pieces I already had, just a bit of time. :)

Exploroz without the side stand for the heat bead chimney it is 12kg in weight.

The size when folded up is 500mm wide, 400mm deep and 110mm high, and set up it is 320mm high, not counting the windshields.

I tested how strong it is when it is set up, by me standing on it and then bouncing on it as well. It never moved at all. I doubt I will ever have 100kg of camp ovens on it though.

Thanks for the comments, I must admit I had been thinking of doing this for some time, and it has worked out pretty well, the heat bead stand was a bit of an afterthought though.

Muzz if you don’t mind me asking, are you a member of Myswag, or do you just have a look.

I have been asked on this sight and another forum for some more photos of my cooking table and some information how it was made, so I hope this helps.

There is two main frames made out of 3mm angle, I used 30mm for the top frame and 40mm for the leg frame.

They were then welded together with a 20mm spacer, this is for the ashtray.

The legs are 12mm rod

The windshield is made from aluminium, I think 1.6mm, and with the hinges riveted and bolted on, the side wings of the windshield just sit in a lug either side when in use. I do have a hole drilled through the lugs and shield so I can lock them in position if I want to.

The heat bead stand just slides onto the main frame with two lugs, and is very secure.

Cooking dinner the other night for Bonnies birthday, a rolled turkey roast and vegies.
