Title: Unusual CO? Post by mikel on Aug 9th, 2011 at 8:07pm
This CO was part of the collection on the tray of an old truck in the Tourist Information place in Newman (wa).
If not completely visible in the pic. it has: SCANIA WA cast onto the lid. 12", the base has ears similar to a Metters but the legs were round and stumpy. Was about to take a pic of the base (I lifted the lid to one side for the pic shown) when the very officious LIC rushed over to say "no photo's allowed" Bah Humbug, but I had what I took anyway!. Still travelling, now in the goldfields. Was pleased to arive Karratha where we took 35l. of cask wine onboard. That prohibition business in the top of WA and NT is a real PITA for dedicated cask wine tipplers! mikel Scandia_Camp_Oven.jpg (89 KB | ) |

IMHO the lid has no relationship to the base what so ever. Just thrown together for the sake of the display.....
My 2c worth.......all I have to do is find the 2c....... :o As far as the "no photos allowed" thing - just tell 'em your a terrorist - not a photographer....and unless they had a sign outside that said "no photos" - snap as happily as you can..... ;D WTF - Is this a tourist destination? What do tourists do - TAKE PHOTOS!!!!!!! Rant over, sorry about the hijack..... ::) |

OJ.
That is what I thought also, but the lid fitted perfectly and the legs were not the long, slender legs of a good looking sheila (or a Metters base for that matter) but short, round and stumpy like..... well you know what I mean. It did look like a matching set. Sorry about the typo. SCANDIA WA Re the no photo philosophy, you can't fart in this part of the world without a permit. No firewood to be collected from roadsides without a permit, no rocks/mineral specimens to be taken without a permit and to add inult to injury most pubs in these old mining towns only open at 4pm and close at 8pm. They sure as Hell cant be viable. The big mining operations, all FIFO are choking the life out of these little places, dont spend a cent in or on them. Thats my little rant! >:( Jack, we are now in Leonora and I am concerned our supply is not going to last until Kalgoorlie! These colder nights take a toll on it. Heading in the Laverton direction tomorrow for a week or so, its very interesting poking around these old places (even without a permit!). ;) mikel |
