Title: Hey Derek - What's the average age
Post by 2Blackys on Oct 10th, 2011 at 9:44pm
Evening Derek,

You would be the man to ask an unusual question related to this site.

Looking at the members birthdays, I reckon the average would be between 50 to 70 years old.

That's just a wild guess !  Would you know the actual average age?

Tell me where to go if it's a PITA question. (I've been told before)

Cheers Garry

What do you call senior down there?

Here it has been 65.   But now, places which had a mandatory retirement age of 65 are changing to not having a retirement age. (partly because of the CA constitution.)

& IMHO my guestimate for COCIA average would be around  60 , definitely NOT over 65.  There are a lot in  their 50s. For example Aart, Derek....

:-/

Crikey Carolyn are you that old???? :o :o ...ya must have snatched Sparky from the cradle he doesn't look day over 55
(Sparky ya owe me at the next COG ;))
Teemac Im one of the young pups here at 51  The older folk here lead me astray at a tender age  ;D..... There are a few younger members that Ive met personally....BBC...Astro and his Family...and a couple of others........other younger members might lurk but say little.
You get to a COG with this mob and age doesn't matter nor do many other things....all that matters is camp oven cooking and camp oven collecting and having a bloody good time.
Hope to see ya at one one day
SBB
PS I forgot about Jonno...........probably our youngest active member and a well above average CO cook

Okay, what does senior mean?

For us in  legal sense.
- eligible for old age pension at 65
- get quite a few discounts from banks, campgrounds, insurance.... at 65.
- it's stores that do these things playing with age more like marketing discounts to get age 50 or 55 and up into buy.

But you aren't really a senior until gov. says you are, ie 65.
Like being legal and of age at 21 for many many things.

But Derek are you saying you think average age @ COCIA is near 55?  & who gives you the seniors card?  For what?

:-/

You can retire at 55 here if you can self fund your retirement which more and more of us are doing.

Just as well I am thick skinned you wouldnt believe how many people dont believe how old Sparky is  :D :D

In NSW you get the official "Senors Card" at 60 and not a second before.  You are even warned not to send in prior.  "They" then take two weeks usually to post it to you.

Its the best thing about turning 60 $2.50 transport all day for a wide area of Sydney and outer areas.  Cheaper movies, free coffee at Maccas ROFL.........and more  :D

Hi SBB,

I joined just before the Lostock Dam COG, it would have suited us down to the ground as I live in Newcastle, less than a 2 hour trip.
We will be making our best effort to attend the next one providing it's not too far out of our way.

We are off to Tassie with our trusty Aussie Swag Camper in Feb for 3 weeks, so it will all depend on when the next COG is, how far away and if I can get the time off from work. ::)

It would be good to put a face to the name, I have spoken to PD a few times on the phone, sounds like a great bloke as all who write here are more then friendly :) :)

You can retire here at 55 too, seldom with full pension though,  Also the federal programs, Canada Pension and Old Age Pension. won't be at full rate before 65 either.

Thank you Carolyn for giving me some idea what a seniors card does for you.

So, how do visitors over 65 get some of these discounts? eh!

8-)

G'day teemac.
Now here is an interesting way of approaching the subject:

You are 47, my age is the same numbers put the other way.
Add together, divide by 2 to get the average.  ;)

Hey presto --- 60 and a 1/2 is the result. ::)

Now I just wonder how close that might be? :-?

35 for me I have got a lot of years left (i hope) to learn the finer art of C/O coking, port evaluashun and general scalywaggin. Growing old is compulsory growing up is not.

LK - you need a friend with a spare card and then just keep your mouth shut  :D

Having grey hair helps also  :D

My mother travelled every year to the US and my Auntie just said "Seniors" at various discount places and it was never queried.

Michael you look pretty good to me :) and what's more important your a good cook :).  I am not giving family secrets away but subtle hair coloring can take approx. 5 years off.  More important to some than others.  Maybe next COG we could all bring colored wigs and test out this theory.
