The bucket depicted in the photo appears to be made of sheet metal and ‘tinned’ and I not sure it was ever designed for cooking purposes. It looks to me like an old fashioned dairy 'test bucket' (commonly used to quality control milk in the milking shed i.e. testing for colostrum milk, mastitis, etc).
Test buckets were manufactured in the old days of sheet metal and then ‘tinned’ with a fusible heavy metal coating of mostly a tin and lead alloy. This coating resisted rust and had anti bacteria properties, which were very important attributes for a dairy where hygiene is paramount. |
