Title: Scandia WA camp oven
Post by Burnsy on Apr 27th, 2012 at 2:32pm
Can't say I have heard or seen of these before but I found this lid in a collection of old station collectables at a roadhouse over Easter.

the base does not go with it and there is another lid for interest as well.  the second lid has had some words cast into the top just under the handle but I could not make it or any of the letters out.

I also came across an old 15 inch Furphy in a garden that was rusting away and was likely still recoverable but the owner did not want to know about it so it is still there dying slowly :(

Sorry, maybe the mods want to merge this into the other scandia thread.

Its a shame to see old ovens rotting away like that.....its only a matter of years before they turn to dust, they would be much better of in the hands of someone who cares for them.
The oven with the circles on the lid is a New Zealand made oven I think.....there are other photos of them spread around this site. They came with a few differnt pattens on the lid from memory

Hi Burnsy, sad to see those ovens looking in that shape, which roadhouse was that, I have a scandia oven I have only seen a few around.

Very interesting Nelson. Ive seen a few of those ovens around the place. There was one for sale in a shop In Gilgandra for quite a while.....I considered buying it at one stage.  They cant all have Carron stamped on the lid or I feel sure I would have noticed it.
Its a shame the legs have been butchered on that one :(

I have seen a few of them that didn't have Carron stamped on them as well. All very interesting.

That is a very nice looking oven Nelson

It was Murchison mate, there is a bit of an old collectables museum there.  The circular lid one looks very different to the Carron pictured, but I guess it could have been.

Too true and I was very tempted to let the old 15 inch Furphy jump in the camper when we left where that was but it just isn't me.  Bad karma in the bush can be a bitch so probably just as well it stayed behind rotting.
