Title: Square bits on Bedourie modification
Post by LG on Aug 27th, 2012 at 8:36pm
Our inspiration  http://www.aussiecampovencook.com/modifiedbedourie.htm

My darling hubby has been working on my camp equipment again.  Gawd I love that man!

This time he has modified the Bedourie for me - replacing the triangle 'loops' with square ones (not sure what to call them because handle is a seperate part) and he made a set of lifters as well.  The lifters bring the square 'loops' in tight and the whole thing is extremely secure and I can even do a controlled tilt to clean off ash etc.

So of course I had to make him his pork crackling in the newly modified unit to say THANKS!

Charlie says Thank You - but she owes me another roast because the crackling was a little bit 'over done'

Bill was thinking of changing them to square once but never did.

Have a look at this photo.  It is the original Aussie Camp Ovens. The 15 inch one had square loops.

Thanks everyone - I have passed on your comments to the man himself

My Jumbo Camp Oven Mate lid came with square loops and Charlie made a handle for me out of some flat steel so I could lift the lid one handed.  I knew that was what I wanted for the Bedourie too.
I took the Bedourie and JCOM lids to BVA Metal Fabrication, explained the problem, and they happily supplied some 3mm stainless steel wire to make the square loops (in exchange for a lemonade scone recipe  ;) )
6mm rod was used for the handle part of the lifters.
A bench vice and small hammer took care of all the bending needs.

@smokeydk - that is exactly the same as mine. The first time I cooked something it tipped sideways and I ended up with hot heatbeads all over the place.   Hopefully you can't imagine what my firefighter hubby had to say about that idea   :o

@Derek -  the crackling was kinda erm just a hint umm blacker than tarmac  :-[
My sister-in-law has now been banned from facebooking me while pork is in the camp oven!  hehehe
