Title: Transport options for steel camp oven and camp oven mate Post by Large Portion on Sep 8th, 2012 at 10:23pm
G'day everyone,
Have just bought my first camp oven and have just seasoned it tonight. It's a 12" spun steel oven from Southern Metal Spinners. Got it for father's day along with a camp oven mate... :D I was looking for a way to carry the two around and found that an Oztrail portable toilet bag is spot on. It's a square canvas bag that the camp oven mate can go in to without being pulled apart. The camp oven can be wrapped in some cloth and go in the camp oven mate. The whole thing zips up beautifully as if it was made for it. I did put a plastic chopping board in the bottom of the bag as the camp oven mate has sharp galvanized bottom edge. Don't know if I've broken a taboo by using a toilet bag but I found that a black marker pen hides any evidence of the bag's original purpose ;) Anyway, just thought I'd mention it in case anyone is looking for a similar solution or is tired of pulling their camp oven mate apart. Cheers, Portion. |

Are you having trouble with the COM sides sliding in and out. It should slip in and out with ease. I know mine does. |

I have the Jumbo COM so I'm guessing it won't fit in the [not] toilet bag - bugger.
I tend not to pull mine apart as it is rather a tight fit and my hands aren't very strong anymore. Doesn't bother me too much though as I put it on the trailer whole, and then store other bits and pieces inside of it while travelling. Perhaps a bit of silicone spray and more manipulatiing is all that is required :) |
