Title: Five Inch National Parks Commemorative Camp Chef Oven
Post by Derek on Nov 18th, 2012 at 12:09pm
Many thanks to KD I now have a 5" Camp Chef commemorating 100 years of National Parks in the US.

Handy little oven for sauces and things although this will most likely just sit on display.  Nice addition to a few other 5" ovens I have :)

Cheers

Thought I was over collecting after I sold or gave away all my old Aussie ovens, but . . . . . . . . . . . . .

These little buggers are nearly as expensive as big ones  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Suggest you add one of these mini Potjies to your collection Derek:

I am sure you will find a use for it.

Good evening KD,

Where abouts in Aussie is the shop that stocks the Sth. African goods?

Looked as though they had some interesting items.

Having recently watched a TV series about America's national parks (very interesting - so much politicking involved)  I am not sure if I dreamt them or actually saw them somewhere...
A series of camp ovens with different national parks featuring on the lids - or maybe it was American explorers.

I don't think they were little ones though, more 10" I think.

Shrugs and returns to figuring out how to win lotto   :D

Same brand as my little one, Camp Chef.  Can get them at Anaconda in Oz.  http://www.campchef.com/dutch-ovens/deluxe-dutch-ovens.html

Hi LG I think the ones you saw where Lewis & Clark camp ovens, they have lots of nice castings on the lids, lots of members on this site have them, just look on the web for some photos  :)

ahh...so I wasn't dreaming!  Yosemite, Grand Canyon & Yellowstone - yep, that is the ones I was thinking of.
Looks like the different sizes have different patterns.

I wonder what we would put on our OZ ovens if we were going to have one design per state/territory.

Obviously Kosciuszko and Uluru would come to mind first, but what else would you expect to see?

I just asked MACA for a post cost on their 9" cast iron.
Will advise the response.

Interestingly they are just across the road from the Volcano people who DO ship overseas!

geez... Those pretty US lids makes most of the ovens available in Oz look so boringly dowdy don't they.

I will console myself with the fact that you can't see the design when it is buried under a shovel full of coals and ash!   ;)

LG, last I heard MACA dutch ovens were made in India. Lodge are the last of the foundries still manufacturing in the US.

Look at this - someone has already put a Kookaburra on a camp oven.  Chinese manufacture but sold here. :)

That reminds me... there is a kookaburra on the underside of that little skillet we sanded   :)

Last time I cleaned and seasoned the top of my little 4qt I had a bit of a hard time getting the ash out of a little triangle.    [goes out to back verandah to check]

Yep, the dang thing has a pattern on it,  mountains and tents!   ::)   'tis an Oztrail oven.
