Overnight the COCIA Facebook page hit 2500 members. Seems many people are interested still in camp oven cooking. :)

That is good to hear Derek.

I got out of Facebook for two reasons:

- security, as being linked to so many other computers is full of risks
- too much inappropriate use by mainly younger people

That is not true David. You set your own security levels in Facebook.

That shouldn't affect you. Many of the people on Facebook prefer to use it as a social medium rather than a forum. That is why I have both as it keeps the interest in camp oven cooking out there.

To give you an idea of the difference. I posted up this thread in DIY about the barbecue http://www.aussiecampovenforum.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1354598585 six hours ago. I posted it on Facebook at the same time.

On the forum 28 people have viewed it however on Facebook 1032 people viewed it and 49 shared it on their own or friends Facebook pages. A huge difference.

Some of them may even check out the forum as well!

As for FB concerns...
Due to estranged sisters, I was out of touch with my interstate cousins for 30 odd years but we are getting to know one another now.
This wouldn't have happened without facebook because we had no idea where each other were living.
Women's surnames change when we marry making it impossible to use Whitepages to trace somebody!

My security settings for facebook mean I am not bombarded with innapropriate guff from strangers.
I do see some stuff posted by my cousins children, but mine are probably posting the same things on their 'mum is blocked from this profile' page and I only see the 'I'm friends with mum on this profile' page.
I simply 'hide' the news stories I don't like when they appear on my wall. ;)

Each to their own, of course!
