Hi All
Sorry if this is in the wrong section I have a question
I have a, I think it is about a quart size camp oven bought from bcf. Could someone give me an idea where I would measure the co from to get the size in inches from outside to outside or inside to inside? Thank you for any advice.

With the side walls of the camp oven being only a few millimetres thick, I'm not sure it would make much difference in Inches.

I don't think I have ever measured any of mine except to see if a pan would fit inside - therefore the measuring was done from inside wall to inside wall.

The only other 'measuring' I have done is convert quarts to litres and vice versa

I am guessing it would either be 18 and three quarter inches (measured inside) or 19 inches (measured outside) - assuming one quarter inch total for both sidewalls - wouldn't it?

Or 19 and a quarter inches measured outside and 19 inches measured inside....Shrug

Not enough blood in my caffeine system today for heavy maths - butting out now :D

Thank you for your info the reason I am asking is the size in inches is so I can calculate how many beads I woud need to cook a roast I know there is an easy way by looking at the great bead calculator on this site. But as my memory isn't that great I think this will be of some help when I camping without internet.

OH... yeah, rough enough should be good enough in that case.

Did you know there is downloadable / printable versions of the heatbead charts?
I often use the one I printed cos my phone is a phone and I can't access the internet where I go camping
(heck, I deliberately pick places without phone reception so we get some peace, LOL)

Chris, generally the BCF ovens are 8 inches, 10 inches, 12 inches and 14 inches. Take the lid off and measure across the top from outside to outside.

Hi All
Thank you derek and lg I have measured my co and it is 12 inches also lg I have printed out the bead calc you sent me the link hanks. I go to the site called dutch oven cooking and their info on how to work out how many beads say if you have say a 12 inch co to roast a cut of meat you use on top 12 beads and add 3 total 15
under 12 minus 3 total 9 that gives you a temp of approx 350f temp.

The "+3 up, -3 down" idea is a good rule of thumb - I've used it myself. [smiley=iagree.gif]

However keep in mind that if there is a bit of breeze blowing, your coals/beads will burn hotter than usual so you still need to keep an eye on things.

If it is cooking too fast (the heat is too high) you may need to remove some of the coals/beads :)
