Title: Beef Cheeks
Post by jclures on May 8th, 2013 at 10:48am
I picked up the beef cheeks from my local butcher, and value for money they are pretty good, I paid $10.50 for 3.5kg of cheeks, so I have frozen two packs of them to use in the future, and with winter coming on that will not be to far away.

I used the same recipe as before just to compare the difference and I was surprised at the flavour difference.

Browning the meat up.

All the main ingredients in starting to cook, total cooking time 3.5 hours.

Potatoes and carrots in for the last 45 minutes.

I cooked the gravy down to thicken it up a little, but the meat was so tender, well worth cooking.

John... That looks like a top bit of Warm! - especially as I am in the middle of a 'severe weather' cold, wet and windy period  :-)

Found this interesting recipe which includes (85%) bitter chocolate   [smiley=bounce.gif]  Gotta luv that!

I'm tempted to try this using the old pressure cooker - but haven't actually used it with heat beads before, so still hesitant.
I'll let you know how it turns out if I end up doing it.

LG as a meal, this is a easy meal, the preparation is easy, it would not have taken me 10 minutes. I  first lit 16 heat beads, as I was using my gas bottle cooker, while they were getting going, in my 12” camp oven I browned up the meat, cooked of the onions, added the beef stock, some wine, a can of diced tomatoes, and a hand full of olives. I then prepared the potatoes and carrots ready to go in later.
Sat back and drank some home brew beer, and then claimed I had worked hard cooking dinner for Bonnie. :)

After reading all the posts about beef cheeks, I just had to try them. As it is so hot up north at the moment, I cheated and did them in the crock pot, and also to allow for a longer, slower cook. They came out absolutely deliciously tender and I'll be doing them again next time I see some. Thank you all for the tips on cooking them.
Stubby.
