Title: Regional COG's combining for a National Cog
Post by Rufzgutz on May 17th, 2013 at 9:14pm
Just throwing this out there for discussion.

What say we agree on a common weekend where we all hold a regional cog and all respond and banter on a joint thread.

With facebook and skype available, mobiles on loudspeakers, we could interact around a real campfire and share whats happening instantly.

It's probably the only way that some of us could actually be involved in a National Cog.

Just for now, lets forget about which weekend and just see if this is something others would consider.

The SA branch (central) will put there hands up. Any others?

I'm in, bit like a combination between a COG and conference call.

Great idea Rick.

Looks at mobile phone....
push button A and say 'hello', say 'goodbye' and push button B
Hmm... not sure I can technologically comply   :D :D :D

Though I could try stealing Chiefs laptop in a wifi area....    ;)

We haven't got to that stage yet Brian. Lets tackle the general interest first.

We have WA, SA, S/E Qld showing interest so far.

LG it sounds like you and I would get along fine, I don't even know how to text, when I asked Telstra if I could get it removed from my phone they thought I was joking.
I think I have a facebook ac, but know nothing about skype.

JC... apparently my phone has a camera on it too!   :o :o :o

I will have to get teen to set me up with his Dad's laptop in order to take part in a long distance COG
Assuming Chief is talking to me again by the time we get something sorted  LOL

Have given this a lot of thought and I think why a number of people are hanging off is the thought of the technology needed to participate.

This is not a criticism but a fact of life that we have a number of people on the forum, some who have been here quite a while who do not even have the knowledge to post a photo.  Like I said, not a criticism, but those people would be put off at participating in something as has been suggested.

I think we are going to have to forget skype and texts and talking on the phone.

Maybe just a lot of weekends together across the country and everyone sharing on the forum at the end of it.

Also think that maybe posting a suggested date for the future where people can look at, in their regions, and can go for a weekend and share that so that others can start preparing.

Interested in others thoughts on this.

Good thinking 99  :)

We don't experience a lot of extreme weather in SA, so we could fit in easily with others preferred dates.

The idea of close proximity cogs could be to not hold it on Long weekends and just use a normal weekend ?

Both great ideas I reckon Derek. Rick's comment regarding not having it on a long weekend has some merit as well I think.

I agree that technology is a huge issue for a lot of us.
Especially if you don't have coverage in camping areas (often the case in WA).
Talking / texting can also be very expensive, or simply not possible, if you are on a limited phone plan.

Teen works at night on weekends requiring Mums Taxi at knockoff time therefore midweek is usually the best time for me to go on camping trips - assuming Chief is physically able at that time.  If all else fails I will simply do a Clayton's Camping Trip and cook in my back yard   ;D

Yep, no public holiday long weekends.  Although all weekends can be a long one for us these days  :P

Actually the long weekend in June we are off in the van to Hervey Bay here in Qld.  Alayna has decided her and Jon will get married there and they are going up to make the bookings.

We are tagging along but staying 7 nights or maybe more :)

Have had a couple of very nice COG's in TBF's backyard so nothing wrong with that either.  In fact the first COCIA COG was there.

Logfire lives in Maryborough..but he might be on the wallaby trail now that he is retired.

Northside of Brisbane isn't that far for a weekend drive.  About 2 -1/2  hrs.
I'd be happy to have it a my place again if that is what it needed to make it happen.

Jeff we have the same problem u here, the only other COCIA member I know off, it Crazy Dog and he has been a little quiet lately for reasons I can under stand.
We also don't have the best phone coverage as well, most places we go there is no coverage at all.

Fair enough. :)

I'm sure we could make run down to Brisbane or the SE corner somewhere.
