Title: An unusual jaffle iron
Post by Rastas000 on Jun 18th, 2013 at 5:07pm
I picked up a CASIO branded jaffle iron this week.  It may be that it is a promotional device or branded for some reason.  It is a short handled press, with a pressed metal and a plastic moulded handle.

The cups "may" be coated, but I am unsure.  I've never seen one like this before.  I am glad to have it.

Good grief, it slices them as well.  :D

Interesting piece of equipment Bob.  I continue to be amazed at the amount of gear that is floating around out there.

Now that I look at this closely, there is some light engraving on one side.  It is not English and has characters that seem to be possibly Eastern European, but I am absolutely guessing.  if I can get a good image if it I will post and see if any of you can help with the detective work.

Well, I have enjoyed the trip that has surrounded this jaffle iron.  The detective work and discovery has been a joy.  It was  particularly a challenge trying to understand the engraving on it.

I started to suspect that the engraving was Middle-Asian.  It now appears it is an ancient form of Urdu or Punjabi that my contact can read, but not understand a lot of.  It seems that it is a persons name (probably the owner) and also maybe a quote or words of religious connotation.

I think this is how archaeologists must feel, being able to link an item to a particular person or place.

It turns out that CASIO brand is a legitimate brand in India.

As described my my content expert, CASIO are a household brand which provide metal work for cooking and utensils, plates etc.  He recalls using similar sandwich makers and tipping them directly into their tiffin for lunches.

They say: "How it began
More than 50 years of tradition combined with a young and ambitious spirit. It all began in 1960, in Gujranwala near to Lahore where name of the Poineer started his effort. He had his own 'Flaschnerei' but he decided to bring his strengths together and at that moment CASIO was born. The brand was established in the same time period as Mercedes, Siemens and Bayer - other flagships of German industry."
