From the company that originally made Toas-Tites. This item was manufactured  by Hearthsong, who bought the rights to the Toas-Tite campfire toaster.  This replica is called a "UFO to Go," and it's nearly identical to a Toas-Tite. In fact, a UFO-to-Go is pretty much indistinguishable from an original Toas-Tite except that it has a flying saucer logo on the front instead, and they were made only in the red handle variety. They were manufactured for only a very short time, and now they are once again "out of print," so a UFO-to-Go is actually harder to get your hands on than an original Toas-Tite.

Just like its Toas-Tite predecessor, the UFO-to-Go is absolutely great for making grilled cheeses, little apple pies, s'mores, etc. You fit two pieces of bread or pita inside the cups along with whatever filling you like (e.g., the cheese, little bits of bacon, onion, tomato...), and put it on the stove-top burner or campfire.

The metal cups seal shut, causing the bread to meld together around the filling to create a hot pocket. Flip once. It's ready in just three or four minutes. The rings inside the cups also toast a "flying saucer" shape imprint into the bread--now you see why they renamed it when they started manufacturing them again! UFOs-to-Go are therefore just as much for kids as Toas-Tites are. The wooden handles keep things cool and easy to handle, and there is a wire bale on the end that keeps the sandwich maker from falling open.

All the specs are the same as a Toas-Tite: length of 15.5 inches, cup diameter of 4.5 inches, weight of approximately one pound (UFOs-to-Go tend to run about 1 ounce less than original Toas-Tites), and material of burnished aluminum with wooden painted handles.

Always great when you find an item you've been wanting for a long time. :)

My very first thought when looking at the photo was 'I wonder if you get the flying saucer on the bread' ...
The article mentions the rings giving it the 'flying saucer' tag, but not the logo being imprinted -
or am I misunderstanding?

Ohhh I saw what you did there...  "Over the moon"..  LOL

As far as the UFO goes, no imprint so to speak on the bread LG..

The sandwiches turn out looking like flying saucers.  This was remarked upon in very early advertising for Toastites..  It seems it was a marketing gimmick to call them a UFO 2 Go with the hype of the space program etc...
