Title: smokey taste after using new oven Post by GROMET on Jul 8th, 2013 at 11:14am
I have just bought my first CO it is one of those "pre seasoned" types but I did season it twice
Now when i used it over the week end once on Saturday and again non Sunday it left every thing with a very strong smokey taste and smell so What have I done wrong ? Gromet |

Possibly too much wet oil left over from the seasoning. I have seen this when the seasoning temperature is not high enough. When you cook the residue oil from the seasoning continues to burn.
Would suggest cleaning as much oil off as you can then return to the heat until it stops smoking. |

I reckon Derek is spot on. Too much oil residue, that isn't baked on properly. Ive just mentioned it in another thread, its better to season your oven upside down which stops pooling of the oil, Seasoning several times using a light coating of oil always works better for me that one heavy coat.
