Title: Dorrigo Antiques
Post by Derek on Nov 20th, 2013 at 12:11pm
Just spent some time talking to Peter at Dorrigo Antiques.

He currently has quite an array of old cast iron including camp ovens and fountains. Didn't get into prices.

Peter is selling up end of next year. He owns the building and says he will most likely have an auction to clear everything out.

For the collector it may well be worth keeping an eye out.

When I have been there he certainly has had a lot of good stuff and he also knew how to charge for it. :o

I haven't met an antique salesperson yet who wasn't a born optimist when it came to valuing their stock, however there may be some bargains if he plans to flog the gear quickly

I doubt anything will go cheap, Ive been to a fair few similar events over the years. Every wheeler and dealer and every collector with 300Km will be there bidding.

Yep, he'se a bit of a tough bugger all right.
We have often called in there (when its open!!), Chris does a bit of crockey collecting but his prices are always pretty outasite without room to haggle. :(
So then its next door to the "smallest motorbike museum in the world" for a top cup of coffee, a cake and a chuckle. :)
When that auction happens they will certainly flock from all ends of the country. ::)

Ok so I was being a bit conservative, with the 300km, Im sure some will travel a lot further. The collecting bug can bite hard when it wants. I met some people who had flowen from Perth to Brisbane, then hired a car to drive to the Toowoombah swap meet last year when I was there.
