Can any body identify what mob could have cast this camp oven, and what age it could possibly be.
Thanks in anticipation, Gaz camp_oven_1.JPG (54 KB | ) camp_oven2.JPG (54 KB | ) |

As far as I know they are an early Chinese oven, but I could be wrong.
I saw one exactly the same only yesterday when looking at some other ovens a bloke had for sale. |

Salty,
You could be on the money, I dunno., that's why I asked. Sat it beside a mate of mines Metters and they look identical, but no brands. Gaz |

Sorry but it doesn't look anything like a Metters to me. The lid is different, the ears or lugs to hold the bail arm on are different, the legs are different.

It certainly isn't a Metters, but I had one the same and have seen a few over the years. I recall someone on here mentioning that they bought one brand new from a disposal store somewhere. My bet is made in China as well but none the less a good looking oven.

I don't know what make it is either (not a Metters) but I think it may be a rather old oven made in Taiwan. They made some nice castings.

Here's my camp oven which appears identical to yours. I bought it brand new from Aussie Disposals store in Melbourne in 1983 for the princely sum of $8. It came with no stickers or any labeling to indicate the make or country of origin, however I always assumed it to be Asian, probably Taiwanese. It's the only Asian camp oven that I own and I call it my 'knockabout' pot, as it's the pot I take camping when I can't guarantee the security of my more valuable or difficult to replace hardware. It has a nice fine casting with a well fitting lid and at 14" it's a good all round size for camping. Over the years it has cooked a truckload of food and is an excellent cooking pot, especially for roasting and baking. For the past 30 years it has served me admirably well for cooking and as a sacrificial lamb in risky camping areas and now has great sentimental value. :) UNCO_002.jpg (34 KB | ) UNCO1.jpg (33 KB | ) |
