Title: What size and what brand CO to buy (First Timer)
Post by Johno on May 12th, 2014 at 11:58am
Hello All
New member and first post, I am wondering if I could call on the vast experience of the group to give me a hand with purchasing a camp oven/ovens

We are a family of 4 so wondering what would be the ideal size CO to buy? and should you have a couple of different sizes for different cooking?

What would be the best brand to start out with?

Cheers and looking forward to some replies.

Johno

Hi Johno and welcome to the forum.

I see you are in Wagga Wagga.  I know you have an Anaconda Store there.

Head down and check out their range. You can see them here - http://camping.anaconda.com.au/adventure/Camp%20Oven

The Spinifex Range are very good.  Similar in shape to the American Lodge and have very good legs on them.  The Camp Chef are more expensive and also are an excellent camp oven.

Either brand are good quality.

As for size.  The 12" is a good all-rounder.

I currently travel with a 12 and 10 inch and that will cook pretty well most dishes for four people.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum Johno.

I think having  a couple of ovens is a good idea. A couple of 12" ovens or a 12" & 10" as Derek has said is a good combo I think.

Hi Johno. Great site for any camp oven related questions here. I'm fairly new to CO cooking and only have a couple of cheap ovens I got from bcf. (campfire brand). They seem to work fine for me but don't have any legs which would come in handy. They come pre- seasoned but I re-seasoned them before use ( on the recommendation from members) just to be sure. Depending on your budget and how much you plan to use it, you could start with a cheaper one, then get a better one as your cooking experience progresses. That's my plan anyway. good luck and happy cooking.
