Thanks for that.
I have noticed that some have a two digit year also stamped on the lid but this one doesn't, are the clean ones before or after a certain year? or is there no clear way to know? Thanks |

The ones without dates were made before the dated ones.

IMO that oven was one of the last made before the ovens were made in China and it would have been made by the Billmans foundry.
In relation to the ovens with years marked on them Saltbush Bill is correct in that the older ovens didn't have dates on them. The ovens had dates on them from around 1989 to 1996 I think. After 1996 (?) they didn't have dates on them again. Jeff |

Just Email the seller I am sure he would know where it was made ;) Or I could tell you from what a lot of people on this site agree on is that the base was cast by Furphy and the lid was cast by Billmans foundry, when Furphy were losing intrest in cast iron. A very nice camp oven IMHO ;D

So what do you reckon Nelson, $450 for this one. 16 bids and still over 6 days to go. ;)

Who knows Derek it just depends on who is after one at the time of auction. But looking at the amount of people signed up to your Facebook page there seems to be a big intrest in camp oven cooking again, I bet the camping stores are loving that page with the amount of gear people are buying. But whatever it goes for it’s an Australian made oven and they are getting harder to find these days. (Trust Me I Know) :) |

Yes Its a 95 model Derek. I thought what I payed you for it at the time was a lot for a small oven, but from memory it was about market price back then. Nelson wrote on Jul 6th, 2015 at 12:09am:
Nelson I have two 10's in my collection now, one with date one without. I'm still reluctant to sell Derek's old oven, but may consider a trade if you could come up with an oven to trade that I'm interested in. |

( nothing to do with cast iron folks ) |

I'm thinking this one will be too expensive for me!
I assume the billmans foundry camp ovens are pretty good? |

No!!!! Don't get Chally started on Billmans :D :D ;D
I am very happy with my 12". My generics actually have a better finish and do have a better fitting lid than my Billmans. My lid sits flat, but does have sideways movement. The only thing I can pick on is the bail handle is too close to the lid when hanging from a tripod. I have offset the handle a little bit, but need to apply a blowtorch to fix it properly. |

I think my $450 prediction may just come close on this one.
