Anyone interested in a COG maybe early October? Cannot be much later as fire ban season here in SA.

Oct is good for us.

There is an exclusive campground available on the 10/11 oct just north of adelaide if it suits others. $40 all inclusive.

But anywhere not too far away is good. Plenty of free camping options elsewhere.

The weekend of 17/18 October ( and a couple of days ether side) would suit Sharron and myself.

17/18th Oct...That weekend should be good with us....as we are going away the 21st Sept for 3 weeks.....that will give us time to reorganise the van

Title: Re: South Aussie COG?
Post by Rufzgutz on Sep 16th, 2015 at 10:18pm
The moons are finally lining up  :D :D

Now to pick a spot to fit at least 5 caravans and hopefully more  :)

We have also been busy with 3 trips to Port Lincoln since June and a Whyalla trip this weekend.

A reasonably close COG will suit us and others by the looks.

I reckon we could be lucky and set up near Walker Flat. (See photo)

Swan Reach would fit us all if no one else was there?

Castle Landing near Blanchetown is on Private land @ $5 per night.

Burra Gorge would also suit us, but a little further north.

What's everyone's thoughts?

Fires are OK at Burra Gorge when not Fire Season, Rob.

Fire Restrictions - "WORLDS END GORGE" camping reserve, Section 244 Hundred of Bright
Pursuant to Section 79(1) & (2) of the Fire & Emergency Services Act 2005, the lighting and maintaining of solid fuel fires is prohibited during the Fire Danger Season.
The use of gas or electric cooking or heating appliances in this Reserve must be undertaken in accordance with Regulation 34(1) of the Fire & Emergency Services Act 2005.

Cadell would also be OK Dave. Showers and toilets and low cost.

Shackles started this topic. Pick a spot Brian, and we will follow  :)

I think Cadell would be a good chioce. We have not stayed there ourselves but we went for a look at it when we were staying at Morgan. Nice caretakers and from memory $15 unpowered and $18 with power. It is the oval you were thinking of Rick?

Just made a phone call to Cadell.
The 16/17/18/19 is available.
If you stay 3 nights its $18 a night with power or $15 un-powered.
6 powered sites available.
Filtered water, hot showers and toilets.
He has got wood there for our campfire with no fires other than in the fire ring.
This will be our last chance for a COG this year as the fire bans kick in soon.

Good news Brian. The available wood sounds very good.

Just need some response from Gromet and Smokey and Bobs your uncle.

Brian's cooking up a roast lamb for tonight.

Had chicken nuggets cooked in the wok for lunch.

Made some delicious gem scones. Some coconut and a dab of honey  [smiley=drool5.gif]

Thanks for the thanks blokes.

The slackarses may have some photos to post when they get home.

The depth of the firepit made cooking a little more difficult.

It was a long way down to place the ovens.

The pit is new to this campground and no coals allowed outside it.

Was like cooking in a pizza oven and took a bit of getting used to.

Thanks for the company Brian, Sharron, Dave, Rosie and Cindy. We all enjoyed our stay here.

Last night was roast lamb & veggies, meatloaf & mash with gravy, chicken drumsticks and salads.

Next winter Jude and I are hoping to head SA way so if we do we might have to try and arrange for you to show us some of your cooking skills! :)

We would have cooked more, but bludgenitis set in  :D :D

At one stage, we was cheering and urging shackles to make us look good  ;D

It was about 30 degrees Sunday, and the furnace around 300 C  :o :o

I planned on making scones and a damper, but the first sentence says it all  :)

From memory, food that was cooked on Sat/Sun ;

Brian & Sharron made some scrumptious jaffles, a mouth watering unbelievable cheese and chives damper  [smiley=drool5.gif] [smiley=drool5.gif] [smiley=drool5.gif], a blind baked pie crust filled with apricot chicken, a roast lamb and veggies.

Rosie&Dave made a batch of very tasty Cornish pasties. And topped with some homemade tomato sauce. A curry chicken and fluffy rice and there should have been a chocolate self saucing pudding, but Silly Smokey left the ingredients home  :P but Rosie found enough to make a very tangy lemon self saucing pudding served with a scoop of ice cream. Everyone was hanging out for more  [smiley=drool5.gif] [smiley=drool5.gif]. Also a very tasty couple of meat loaves served with mash and gravy  [smiley=drool5.gif]

From our camp, we knocked up a very tender braised beef roast served with pan roasted potatoes and carrots. The beef juices and onion with a little corn flour added made a  very tasty gravy. Peeled a few tomatoes and made a small oven of tomato soup. A batch of very easy wok Chicken nuggets and an oven of marinated chicken drumsticks. also made a batch of very fluffy gem scones sprinkled with flaked coconut and a drizzle of honey.

I think that was all on the weekend menu.

Had plans of bacon and eggs on the campfire, but a bit awkward in our fire pit, so the powered site came in handy  :)

Ants at the camp were not a problem. But when I dropped and left an empty chicken tray on the ground for maybe 2 minutes, they came from everywhere  :o :o

Lucky that they soon left when the tray was removed.

The flies didn't bother us either, but Dave and Rosie seemed to attract them.

Probably a personal hygiene thing  ;D ;D ;D
