It wouldnt be a pie oven I think. You need coals on a lid for browning a pie and that lid is not designed for coals. These were mainly for stews and soups but also were used for preserves pickles and jams.

Kingsthorpe David has one of these he got sent over from Ireland. It is a new replica with a cast iron lid.

Yep, can see that. Just saying David's had a cast iron lid but it was a replica. Check out this photo. It is hanging on the wall of the old Hammond & Wheatley Emporium in Bellengen, NSW which is now a clothes store.
