Title: Help to identify an unkown Camp Oven - Albion? John Walton & Son? UMI? Post by Mike234 on Sep 21st, 2016 at 3:21pm
Hi all, I recently purchased this camp oven which I thought may have been an Albion.
Though, after cleaning and seasoning it I still can't work out what the logo is. It has a logo on top of the lid and it also looks like there was a logo on the side of the camp oven. After doing some research I wonder if it's a John Warton & Son CO as the logo looks similar in appearance, but it may also be an Albion or UMI CO as there's a logo on the side of the CO. Or I may be completely wrong and it's some other brand entirely. Does anyone think they know what brand it is? Hi Mike.
I have an Albion 10. Just took some photos for you to compare. Note that the oval albion marker is under the lid. My base has no marker on its side. We have many forum members that have much more knowledge than I. Cheers Aart. 821201616114.jpg (42 KB | ) 82120161612.jpg (96 KB | ) 821201616037.jpg (67 KB | ) |

Hi guys, I have seen those photos but noticed that the albion markings were on the underside of the lid.
I saw the John Walton and Son marking on reply number 7 at http://www.aussiecampovenforum.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1434369833/4 and wonder if that may be the marking as I haven't seen an albion with the writing on the top of the lid. Though, do John Walton COs have markings on the side of the pots? I've seen some UMI ones, but this doesn't appear to be a UMI logo :-/ |

The only other possibility that I can see is that it could be one of these.
See the first post in the thread. http://www.aussiecampovenforum.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1245322472/1 SBB |

Hi SBB, the legs on that camp oven also look similar as they are quite short and stubby.
Though, the logo on the pot you showed is more of a circular shape, whereas mine seems to have an oval shape similar to Albion, John Walton and Son etc. I think it says Maryborough on mine, but I may just be imagining it. Do many COs have logos on the side though? I'm sure it's a logo that's just worn over time. On a side note, the Albion logos appear to have a raised ring and text, whereas the John Walton COs have a raised oval with raised text on it. The Albion's only appear to have a ring oval shape with text inside. Does that seem correct or have I just not seen enough Albion and John Walton logos? |

Hard to say , Ive not seen a lot of Walton ovens my self.
I can say for sure that a in 1939 John Walton was making 8, 10, 12 and 14 inch ovens. https://www.myheritage.com/research/collection-10450/maryborough-chronicle-wide-bay-and-burnett-advertiser-qld-jan-21?itemId=33644427&action=showRecord And this is interesting too. Dated June 1st 1939. Messrs. John Walton and Son of Neptune Street, have a display at the show of their manufactures — Standard Dover stoves, the Walton range, boiler stands, agricultural farm implement carts, and a large variety of other products. The firm has been established for 60 years, and the Standard products are favourably known by dealers throughout Queensland and thousands of householders. Featured in the display in No. 2 pavilion are the Queen and Kandian heating stoves, splendid and cheerful comfort during winter days and nights. The camp ovens exhibited are made in various sizes, from 8 inches to 24 inches in diameter. These ovens are used at stations, shearing sheds, road construction camps, and other works in many parts of the State. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/151669627 |
