Title: 18 Inch Railway Ovens Post by Derek on Feb 13th, 2018 at 5:07pm
Thanks to Ranger Nick of http://www.rangernick.com.au/ for the photos. Someone said they had heard that Nick had one of these so I asked him if we could have some photos for the the History Section of the forum.
This is only the second time I have heard of their existence and know of only one other collector who has one. Thanks again Ranger Nick. C3028902-F221-44A1-9919-63AD1733E4C6.jpeg (79 KB | ) 8912509A-B336-483A-9A0B-4C4318523011.jpeg (94 KB | ) |

I have asked Nick if he has any historical background on the oven.
I think it is amazing when we hear of these mythical old camp ovens and then start to see evidence of them like we have here. To me this is the essence of what this forum is all about. |

This is Nicks take on these ovens and why we see so few of them these days

Going to look at a 18inch railway oven today. Lid looks identical to the photo of Ranger Nicks, but base looks different, dont think it has the 4 ears. Are the legs of the 18 the same as the 12.
Thanks Faff |

Very few people have even seen one mate so hard to know. Nick believes it is a genuine one and I have never seen a camp oven with four ears myself before.

Faff, would be nice to get some photos of it to add here as this is the only one we have on the forum.

Picked up oven today. Was made in the Bundaberg Foundry in the 90s by one of the workers using original moulds. He said they made a few for themselves between jobs. He also had a 12inch. Havent worked out how to put photos up yet.

$80 :o :o :o. Holy cow.
That thing to me would be worth more than the rediculous high priced 20” Furphy’s we have been seeing on the market. |

Like I've always said I think Furphy's are terribly overrated, sure I have several but I rarely use them and would trade them for a Harding or of course an 18" QR!
