A lot of discussion recently regarding internal temperatures for meat so just wondering what thermometers you are all using.
I have never used a thermometer at all so this is all new to me. Thanks. |

To just do a periodic check I use a straight one from Aldi. Not there fancy bbq ones.
For leaving in to constant monitor I have been trying a Matador from Bunnings. Download a app and set it to your phone to monitor but limited range max 15 m. Set the app once and it dropped out so just go out and check when I need to. It also has a habit of turning off after a few hrs. The two show the same reading when I have used them together. May need to check them in the old glass of ice water and see how they read. |

Hi
I had a looked at the Matador and was paranoid the cable might melt or damage due to the weight of the lid (plus heatbeats) So it works alright over a camp oven? |

The one I have is a Lakeland, I bought mine at the Good Guys for about $30.00. Works really well.
JP you can use a bit of wire under the lid where the lead comes out. Muzz |

JP have not used it in a camp oven, would just use the straight probe if I lift the lid to check

Me too. Very simple and cost only a couple of dollars. Takes up no space and doesn't use batteries. |

I was in Bunnings at Toowoomba the other day and they didn't have any of the Matador in stock.

I use the matador thermometer. Have had it for a couple of years. The app you put on your phone is useless unless you're sitting within a few metres of the thermometer, but i use it as a temperature reference. Have found it pretty accurate, especially when cooking chicken, I take it off the heat when still juicy rather than cooking it too long like I used to.

I was in the BGSFOS today and picked up one of the single probe bluetooth Matador jobbies.
Now all I need is a break in the weather to be able to light something to test it on :) |

Hopefully ALDI over this way have it as well. Wouldn't mind a cheapy to throw in the camping box and leaving my more expensive one at home. Thanks for sharing Derek

I bought a couple of these Aldi ones today.
Small issue: Do not use the Probe near open flames or inside a closed oven. The oven door must remain open when making a measurement" That takes away much of the usefulness. |
