Title: Wavell High Tuckshop Scones
Post by TBF on May 24th, 2020 at 8:17am
This recipe if from my wife's high school recipe book. I made it yesterday with our 4 years old grandson and it was perfect. Previously my record with scones was not good.

2 cups SR flour
2 large tablespoons sunshine milk powder
pinch of salt
2 large tablespoons of butter or margarine
1 egg
1 cup of water

Preheat the CO to 230C
Beat the egg in the cup of water and let sit.
Sift the dry ingredients together and rub in butter well.
Add the egg/water mixture and mix with a knife.
The mix will be fairly wet.  Do not overwork the mix.
Turn onto a floured bench and turn over in the flour so that the outside is coated.
Press out lightly.
Cut out the scones and place closely together on a greased tray.
Place tray in the oven for 12 -15 mins.
Mine came out perfectly at 15 mins.

Makes 8 large scones per recipe.

I like that. Had never seen a scone recipe with egg until recently however they posted the Royal Scone Recipe from Buckingham Palace just recently and it has egg in it as well.

Like you Aart I have had a mixed success in the past so might give this one a try.

I like sultanas in mine as well.

Some chopped dates also add a different flavour and texture to a scone

Maybe rum soaked sultanas.

Chopped candied ginger.

Well done Aart you did a good job
Lesley wanted some scones made the other day. So I made
them (with her help) however our scone were made with
Gluten free flour.
With Gluten free scones or even pancakes they are best eaten when they are fresh. So as you can realis they don't last long here.  :D;)

I hope no one from the CWA reads that.

There will be hell to pay  :)
