Title: Have You Noticed The Price Of Meat Lately Post by Derek on Mar 20th, 2021 at 7:36am
Was wandering through Woollies the other day having a browse along the meat section.
Noticed that lamb cutlets and lamb racks were $50 a kilo. Not that long ago they were $39 a kilo. Legs of lamb were $20 a kilo and they previously were around $12.99 and $9.99 on special. Not sure what whole lambs are going for but cut up that is getting right up there Have you noticed a big price increase where you are. |

Hi Derek
Yes I noticed meat prices the other day. But I believe the meat prices at Aldi and our local Fresh and Save store are pretty good. Example Fresh and save have Australian Pork lion chops on sale this weekend $9.99 per kilo. regards Kev |

Our local butcher's prices have been going up also. Can't afford lamb or steaks these days unless they are on special.

After the drought not that many head going for the meatworks. Farmers are buying to restock their herds. Was reading about it 2 weeks ago and they were predicting a large increase in meat prices.
Can not afford to buy from the local butchers and even Woolies getting expensive here. Bought second grade rump for $10 kilo last week and made mince out of it. Cheers Bear |

I spoke to my brother about this the other day (he's a cattle farmer). While the prices are up slightly at the saleyards for steers going to abattoirs it's not really reflective of the increase in retail prices.
Herd stock is getting pricey. Which means the price rises will be around for a while. |

Yes Kev, Schultes Butcher over the other side of the highway. He has really good meats and small goods but you certainly pay for it.

Still get legs of lamb down here for $12.50 on special.
What about the bulk buy butchers up there, one at Beenleigh, City and Caboolture/ Morayfield. We use to buy most of ours at the Morayfield butcher |

We have someone building a rather large butcher shop at Gatton. Hopefully they will be a bulk buy butcher.
Mind you I have never been that good at managing bulk meat and would need a small freezer to cope with it. |

Went down my local butcher this morning to grab a few things. Saw some nice cuts of eye corned silverside and thought that will be good for dinner and sandwiches for the next few days so grabbed a piece that felt about a kilo and a half.
Didn’t take any notice of the price at the time and when I was unwrapping it went :o :o :o :o $24.99 a kilo. Dumbstruck as I don’t think I have ever paid more than $14.99 before. It better taste good. >:( |

Nice buy today at IGA.
Good sized packs as I like to put around 300g of kidney to 600g of chuck steak when doing steak and kidney. Two in the freezer and one for dinner tonight. :D 3CB84CBC-8A6B-4226-85A8-736732CCD4DF.jpeg (215 KB | ) |
