Title: Lamb Brand Post by Cactus on Aug 8th, 2021 at 2:59pm
Lamb in a butcher shop and a leg of lamb in a supermarket are we being taken for a ride?
I thought all lamb must carry the DPI lamb brand. I have looked at butcher shops around my town and all carry the lamb brand. IMG_1159__3_.jpg (65 KB | ) IMG_1160__3_.jpg (34 KB | ) |

Hi Murray
That is a bit strange. I always believed in all slaughter places the meat was always inspected during the process. :o regards Kev ;) |

Haven’t really noticed the branding for a long time. I am sure Woolies, Coles and Aldi don’t have it on their cryovac lamb legs and shoulders.

Have now trawled through both Aldi and Woolworths up here and no lamb brand in either.
I did see in the current advertising that boneless whole leg lamb at Aldi is only $13.99 a kilo. Special is on until 14 September. AE1351A9-B641-4000-BB22-015BD5648C35.jpeg (533 KB | ) |

Could it be that they are importing it from UnZud or something?.....no stamp required that way?

If the lamb is not stamped as lamb then it is not certified as lamb and could be any age sheep.

I have been trying to find some sort of legislation on this and cannot. Finding lots online about it but it seems there is no law saying that real lamb must be stamped.
Anyone know anything on the legal side of it???? |

Bought half a leg of lamb at IGA yesterday. Has the lamb brand on it.
