Title: Ideas for a Home Camp Kitchen Post by Rabbitz on Sep 28th, 2021 at 1:33pm
In the next little while, the bride and I will take ownership of our new 2 acre place.
While it has a nice veranda that will end up with an outdoor, gas powered kitchen, as we have almost 2 acres I have been thinking about some sort of separate wood and charcoal powered kitchen. So I am looking for ideas. One house we wanted to buy but missed out on, had a proper concreted area with a fire pit and a raw timber and tin shed - complete with running water, power, storage - the works! Due to council building caveats, the rough timber and tin idea might not fly but a three sided colorbond shed with a skillion roof may get past the referees (and the bride). Power and water may be possible, although permanent connection may require trenching and the associated trades, so not sure. Ventilation could be an issue but for winter use some sort of sidewalls would be needed. So I guess as this is a bit of a 'greenfields' design I thought I should open it up here for advice and ideas, even the 'out there' ones! |

The photo is from the camp kitchen at the big caravan park at Mallacoota.
When we walked in it hit me that this concept would make the ideal home camp kitchen albeit with a much bigger fireplace with raised ledges at the side to sit camp ovens and somewhere to hang cooking pots from over the main fire. My thoughts were to build the fireplace and then a structure around it. As a young kid we lived in a house with a fireplace I have described. F36B61FD-E3FE-467D-9C34-A7A8D9766B64.jpeg (201 KB | ) |

Wow. There's a concept.
(Can you hear the wheels and cogs spinning in my head?) |

This was another I have stayed at called Kosciusko Mountain Retreat. It actually snows at this place in winter.

This is a layout I have had kicking around in my head since seeing the camp kitchen at the house we missed out on.

Check where your prevailing winds come from so you do not have smoke blowing inside.

Regardless of prevailing winds, smoke will always, and I mean always, blow towards me :) ;D :D
