Depending on your needs.
If you don't want the government issued ones you can use that money towards better ones.

Thank you for your replies cheers.

Had my appointment and must say I have been happy with my original aids purchased over 3 years ago. Was not a pensioner so with private heath rebate still cost me near $2k.

With the pension I get the government ones for free which my bloke told me are several levels above my current ones. They are also digital and wireless so he can connect my phone for incoming and out calls.

Seems a good deal, they all so have a add on where for $53.45 you get all your batteries for a year and insurance for your aids if you loose them or they are damaged.

Overall happy with this mornings appointment. Cheers Robert

It is my first Robert.
I have difficulty in group environments and people with soft voices and poor diction.
I often guess what they say. This results in much humour.

Same here Aart, people who walk away while talking to you or extra loud mobs I just turn them off.

I have been wearing a hearing since I was about 12 years old. So I think I now a little about them.
Since I started working I have had to pay for my own and have bought the best I could afford.
My fishing career started at 20 years of age and 45 years later I retired from the water and my working life.
It took a bit of skill to work in that environment wearing hearing aids all that time. Hearing aids are not water proof as I found out.
Buy the best aids you can afford. Cheers Brian.

If people would turn to you when talking, that would make a difference.
I'm on your pages Robert.

I got my first pair in around 2009 and am on my third set now.

Had my annual audiology check just before we left home and the audiologist has said that the hearing loss in my right ear is so significant now that she wrote to my doctor suggesting I be referred for a cochlear implant.

Something I will follow up when we get home from this trip.

When we are travelling like this though it is often nice to be sitting quietly in my own little world.  The only downside is with the hearing aids out I cannot hear bird sounds.

As an aside I saw my first ever Blue-winged Kookaburra here yesterday.  😊

Managed to get the app down for my hearing aids. Back for a check up on Monday and he rest the right volume for me as well as showing me how to set for different environments, eg Cafe /noisey areas, TV/theatre and set up on find my phone as long as they are turned on.

Quite happy with them cheers Robert

Nothing is as good as normal hearing, I am profoundly deaf, as Aart says if people looked at you when they spoke that would be a big plus.

Agree there Rob.  Like you I will soon be getting assessed for a cochlear implant on my right side.

I know I drive Maggie crazy having to keep asking her to repeat things.
