Title: Fig Conserve Post by Derek on Feb 10th, 2026 at 4:17pm
When I was over Gatton this morning decided to drive out to Col’s Fig Farm at Winville to see if any figs available. It is the season for them and I ended up with two big bags of seconds for a total cost of $16.
The seconds are those marked and odd shaped ones that don’t end up being marketable. When I got home and weighed them I ended up with just over 2.2 kilos. Kept some for fresh eating and ended up with 1200gms of chopped fruit for jam. Found a simple recipe on the internet and made three full and a part jar of fig conserve. The recipe showed the following quantities and I adjusted it accordingly. 800 gms diced fresh figs 2 tablespoon water 600 gms granulated sugar 60 ml lemon juice Photos show the results. Eckon this will last us for 6 months or more. IMG_5571.jpeg (177 KB | 19

Made a batch on my 2 ingredient scones to go with the jam today.
Still wondering if the cream or the jam goes on first? They do taste the same though. IMG_5587.jpeg (200 KB | 18

Made another batch of fig jam today. This time however I added 2 teaspoons of Dutch Ground Cinnamon.
Wow what a difference. Taste is phenomenal. The French call it “Confiture de Figue Cannelle” IMG_5673.jpeg (151 KB | 17

Same recipe.
Yesterday I got an advertising email from Beerenberg and it was for their new Fig & Cinnamon Jam and I had a look online and most recipes just seemed to add the cinnamon. Either a couple of teaspoons or a couple of quills. Cinnamon being one of my favourite spices I thought why not. |
