Title: Puff Pastry Ain’t Puff Pastry Post by Derek on Jul 8th, 2026 at 6:04pm
For as long as I can remember I have always bought Pampas Brand Puff Pastry. Mainly I guess because I have never had a failure.
A while back I was wandering through Woolies and noticed the Woolies brand of puff pastry was half the price of Pampas. My Professor Sumner Millar brain kicked in and I considered, “Why is it so?” Surely it cannot be that different so I bought a pack. Now I can answer the question”Why is it so?” for myself. It puffed up ok but didn’t taste quite right. Now one of the key ingredients in a good puff pastry is butter and yes, you guessed it, the cheaper one has margarine instead of butter. So, puff pastry ain’t necessarily puff pastry. :) |

I am persevering with this pastry as the pack had 6 sheets in it.
It cook up ok but the taste is not the same as a butter puff pastry. :) IMG_6228.jpeg (171 KB | 3

Maggie has made an Executive Decision. Part way through dinner tonight she said I can throw the last two sheets away. ;D ;D ;D
