Title: Broke COG a big success
Post by Sundryed on Sep 8th, 2008 at 6:58am
Hi all,
Just to let every one know the COG  was a huge success.
I got to the camp ground about 10.00am Friday in heavy rain at this stage it looked to be a big wash out, it cleared long enough to get a  camp fire going and set our camp up. And  the other members of your group started to arrive, first PD and Lauraine, Andy and Clare and boys, Mick and Wendy, Russell and Jill, Astro and Tracy and there two little ones.and big Aart and Mick from QLD... but the weather was to be bloody shocking over night, heavy rain and gale force winds..BBC Mick arrived on Saturday morning to overcast sky but no rain and then all the fun began..Getting more wood was the next chore and about a hour later there was enough to see us out for the week end. I am sorting a few photos out and resizing so will post some over the next day or so.
A big thanks to every one for there attendance and food contribution..
and thanks to Astro Dave and family for the COCIA COG Broke 08 cap.
Muzz

Dave had a big marque that we put up and used as a food serving area..tops

With record rain over night.. I am glad that we camped on sandy loam, not a puddle of water in the camp...the local  brook/river/ creek ran a banker overnight, the first time in  many years.
Jono I fixed that up thank you ;)

I truly enjoyed the COG.
The food and company were a pleasure to share.

We had a great time at the COG it was so good to meet everyone and the company, food and drink was just top notch! We arrived home yeaterday at 6pm in the evening after a long day on the road. The camp was certainly quiet on sunday night and we spent some time around the camp fire talking about, what was to us, a fantastic weekend.
It was just great to share everyone stories, recipe's and secrets about camp oven cooking, collecting and camping there was certainly some good yarns getting around and we loved every minute of it.
Thanks to everyone who came along and made it what it was.
I will be posting some photo's soon, but I still have a Little bit of unpacking to do.

Astro.

P.S. Aart, We called into Dunedoo on the way home to pick up that camp oven for you and I cannot beleive inflation these days, that 10 inch Metters had gone up from $90 to $250!!!!!!!!!!!!What are the odd's.
Anyway It was a great stop, I picked up cast iron bread tin and a very old brass bottle jack rotisserie that was used to suspend and rotate meat vertically infront of old fire grates and ranges. What a way to top off a trip hey.

Dave

I'm still trying to get hook and lure out of my mouth from Broke when you last trolled that past me.. ;D ;D

Sounds like a good pick up in the other gear you got.

Terrible being back home.
After 2 days of non-stop COC..had to do the work thing today.
No fire, no cooking no mad mates and no drink.
One without the other 3 will never seem the same again.   :'(

Mate its a bit far to drive for me unless I can make a couple of weeks out of it, I'd still like to see the Cape & head over to Darwin to see my brother, so it isn't out of the question,
Flying up to Townsville for work makes it hard to take ovens but I'll definately try to get up your way again if I do the Townsville thing again.

Thanks for the feed back everyone, I'm pleased you all had such a good time. The food looks extreme.

I wonder if it would be possible to have a national COG, one to cater for all in Oz say every one or two years and with a lot of notice we may have a great thing going. Any thoughts on that folks?

Skip,
Aart & I were discussing that very subject on the weekend,
We figure the inland dams where a great venue & trying to nominate one that is centrally located for most every one.
I will do a bit of research & see whats there, one that Art & I thought of was lake Keepit at Tamworth but there may be better options!

Mick.

Title: Re: Broke COG a big success
Post by skiproosel on Sep 10th, 2008 at 1:23pm
Good call Mick.

I guess that if it did indeed happen and all starters put their names down early it would become easier to pick a suitable location. I think an inland Dam is a super idea (so long as it has some water in it) ;D

PS.  LK we have been in a state of drought in many inland areas of Oz and some of the Large Dams were all but dry.

All the best

Post by poddy dodger on Sep 10th, 2008 at 4:19pm
G'day Skip, I mentioned to BBC that it was a very long walk to the water at Lake Keepit earlier this year and that holds true for most of the dams up that way.
I reckon we should consider any site that is free, has toilets and will allow a big camp fire and that rules out National Parks so look at State Forest camping areas and the like.
I have a "Free Camps" book so I'll have a look for something suitable, just a suggestion.

Thanks LK, but I was hoping Mike would post his photo of them still in the CO before they got attacked, They were done in the 20" Cabellas & that tin is 18" dia which gives an indication of how big they are,

For all who were there, I have revised the amount of flour used for that sized tin back to 4 mugs instead of the 6 I used on the day, making them much lighter like I have had in the past.

MikeO is having a little trrouble with the photos.
They are around 3.5MB and the resizing is giving him some unhappiness.
BBC asked for originals of his full dish of bread rolls.
His computer refused to send them via email because of size.

I think he is in conatct with BBC to sort the matter out

I also had a problem with Astro's pics earlier.  I figured it might be a part of the whole site issues.

Attachments which are huge are more apt to be picked up by this site's attachment software than oversize images via a photohost.  I can remember The Furph used to attach some at the 2500 or so width.  & all you have to do is click on the paper clip to see the full image.

While I can see quite a few images with those who use Photobucket here, that's far from 100%.

Image Shack has been 100% until this instance.

Hi Dave

Unfortunately all of the photos you put up were linked through Imageshak and they for some reason closed all the links from their links.

The ones that Muzz put up were lost when we had to move servers due to the provider going down.

Sorry about that.
