Title: Kayak Fishing
Post by Cheater on Apr 27th, 2015 at 5:24pm
I don't Know if any one else here kayak fishes but I have been doing so for the last 5 years and haven't looked back.
We get all the common species Gummies - Snapper - whiting as you would expect
but back in Jan a group of us ( 7 in all ) headed north to South West Rocks for our first go chasing Marlin with the kayaks .
Shane ,one of our group picked up a 22.2 Kg wiggler on day one
heres his youtube clip of it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NU5rVWZ5HA

there was also a 118 cm Mahi Mahi and a couple on Spanish Macks caught
no luck by myself but got 7 straight days in fishing out the front trying
a couple of days the boats couldn't get out through the bar but we were out in pretty bumpy conditions
Check out SWR chenski that a kayak there under that flag

tea tree 2013 are couple of snapper caught off the yak a 8.55 kg and a 4.47 kg - I also pulled a 1 meter long gummy as well same trip

and you can see I slum a bit with lunch I have a couple of nice Oyster grounds near a few of my marks
so low tide days I take a lemon and an Oyster tool to open them 1/2 a dozen for lunch isn't bad

Seems like you thoroughly enjoy yourself and catch some nice feeds of fish. You can have being out in that sort of weather though - rough!!! :o

Loved the video. Have seen lots of yakkas doing their stuff and my opinion hasn't changed. Bloody madmen  :D :D :D

Pity the marlin couldn't survive, but sounds like you enjoyed a good feed  [smiley=drool5.gif]

You are definitely a 10 percenter that catches 90 percent of the fish  :)

Sitting here  drooling over those oysters.

Those snapper are no good. Too big for a camp oven  ;D

Yes we were into the marlin steaks done in teriyaki on the Barby that night - yum

Looking forward to next years trip up there as we will return with a bit more knowledge on the area
the 17 hour+ drive does cut down how often we can head up that way

but thats next year we have been watching the weather like hawks trying to pick a slot to head to Portland to chase Blue Fin Tuna
having the weather right , the fish in close enough , swell down enough and to be able to get away from work
is a lot to get lined up together
