Title: Website Not Secure
Post by Derek on Mar 14th, 2019 at 12:56pm
Many of you have or will start seeing a message in your status bar about the website you are looking at is not secure.

It is starting to happen to this forum and I am starting to receive emails and messages about it

In a nutshell nothing has happened to this and millions of other websites across the internet to cause this.

What is happening is that website owners are being forced by companies like Google and Chrome to update to suit their browsers.

Here is a quote from the internet about this

Quote:
The reason you are seeing the “Not Secure” warning is because the web page or website you are visiting is not providing a secure connection. When your Chrome browser connects to a website it can either use the HTTP (insecure) or HTTPS (secure). Any page providing an HTTP connection will cause the “Not Secure” warning.

At this stage should I update the forum to a HTTPS site, every link across the forum and across the internet that refer to the forum would become obsolete.

I am assured by the developers of the software that the software is secure.

At this stage I intend to do nothing.

I see this on other forums as well, but I thought it was a way for the browsers to get more money from users.
The likes of google and chrome are going broke so we should help them out. ::)

Hi everyone

It has taken a while but I have now set the site up with a secure https address.

Due to the nature of the forum we are still showing some un-secure items however this is due to members external links to unsecured sites hosting images. Hopefully as other sites secure themselves this will be resolved.

Now that you have logged back on to the forum you should have been automatically redirected from:

Code:
http://aussiecampovenforum.com; to
https://aussiecampovenforum.com

If you have the forum bookmarked I would suggest you delete the old bookmark and create a new one using https.

Most of you should notice no real difference however if you experience any problems post here or alternately email me at admin@aussiecampovenforum.com

Cheers

Derek I am getting this coming up this morning. I had no trouble yesterday though.

Your connection is not private
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from www.aussiecampovenforum.com (for example, passwords, messages or credit cards). Learn more
NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID
This server could not prove that it is www.aussiecampovenforum.com; its security certificate expired yesterday. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection. Your computer's clock is currently set to Sunday, 14 April 2019. Does that look right? If not, you should correct your system's clock and then refresh this page.

We we are up and running again.

All this new website security stuff we are being forced into using is driving me up the wall.

They are making it very difficult for the hobbyist these days.

How long does a certificate last, and is there a cost for them Derek?

The certificate is ongoing John but renewable every 90 days.  For some reason the other day the auto-renew didn’t occur.

There is currently no additional cost for it however like all things it most likely will be in the future or they will think up something else to charge more. :)

David, fixed ages ago however as mentioned back then you need to delete your bookmark which will be:

http://www.aussiecampovenforum.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl

Replace it with:

https://www.aussiecampovenforum.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl

The site is now run on a secure platform however you do need to use the URL with the prefix https.

When you use the https your URL in your browser will display a padlock to show it is secure as in the image below. This is dependent on browser type though.  I am using Firefox.

Cheers

Will have a look on the computer when I get home next week from the COG.

It is because members have posted links to insecure pages such as images. It will not change.

The website itself is secure.
