Over the past 12 months or so I have been using mallee charcoal in my kettle BBQ (when I am not using coconut heatbeads).
I was running low and dropped by the local ag supplies place to grab some more. The fella there said that the current supply they have will be the last for the foreseeable future as all of the guys who run the charcoal pits are in the SA Riverland, which is currently submerging under all the water you lot from Queensland and New South Wales keep sending down. So if you use local charcoal it might be worth looking into stocking up... |

Rabbitz
What brand is the charcoal? During the great depression in the 1930's train load of mallee roots were sent to Melbourne for heating and cooking. Muzz |

When I lived at Wagga Wagga there was a restaurant called The Mallee Grill. The meats were all cooked over charcoaled mallee roots.
You ordered your meat/s and when it arrived you went to the bar and selected your vegetables or salads. They made the best marinated rump steak I have ever eaten. Sadly it seems to have closed. |
