Good to see you out and about. Enjoy the trip.
Are you staying at the Caravan Park there? We walked through it and thought it pretty good. Amazing location. |

In Coobowie caravan park to meet up with the Carefree Caravaners.
Decided against free camping as only $30 night here. Clean but a bit dated but friendly managers cheers |

Morning Aart holding good but will be back in April for my next lot of injections. As long as I do not over do it or try to get under the van to fix things I should last.
Nice grass sites at Coobowie Park, lovely sea breeze through the night so nice and cool. Kev more photos after coffee mate Cheers |

Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Bear on Feb 10th, 2024 at 1:32pm
Just finished lunch and relaxing, can here a strange sound but nothing inside. Knock on the door a neigbour saying we have a water leak under the van. Sure enough its a good one, will look when it dries up a bit I do carry spare John Guest fittings so should be no problems. cheers.

Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Derek on Feb 10th, 2024 at 2:09pm
Can see the red and blue water pipes so may be easy to get at.
Bit of a bummer though. |
Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Bear on Feb 10th, 2024 at 3:43pm
Climbed under and a clip was missing of a T piece, felt along the line and was certain there was a split in the pipe. Cut out a foot of pipe and sure enough, bent the pipe and it was brittle.
So foot of pipe, one joiner and three holding clips plus 4 cable ties job finished. Cheers Robert ![]() |

Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Bear on Feb 15th, 2024 at 7:45pm
Sorry been a bit busy home at the moment and will try and put some photos up tomorrow Kevvie.
Coobowie was a good van park, nice thick grass and only $30 with power and water, good facilities. Went fishing for squid a couple of times but no luck. Just enjoyed being on the jetty with a coffee and Rod. Van travelled well with the new A frame, 430mm shorter than the original and a lot easier to park. Cheers |
Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Bear on Mar 3rd, 2024 at 10:27am
All hooked up to go to Port Broughton and doing the tyre check, one is low so pump up but went down again so RAA called for a change over then on our way

I saw the first three words “All hooked up”, and I immediately thought, he’s on his way to Alstonville. ;D ;D
Enjoy your trip. We didn’t stop at Port Broughton when we were down there. |

Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Derek on Mar 12th, 2024 at 2:45pm
Robert, how did the trip go??
|
Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Bear on Mar 13th, 2024 at 7:17am
Morning Derek time at Port Broughton was good but would not go back again, better places to visit I believe.
We left there Thursday morning and arrived at Rockbank caravan park around mid afternoon Friday. The van park is about 35 klm from Melbourne but it was a long weekend. Dam drivers in Victoria are crazy and surprised there are not more killed. Meet our daughter at the hospice Saturday morning as she had just flew in from Adelaide. Just as she meet us received a message saying the aunt was fading and only immediate family allowed at the bed side. Hit my girls a bit har but they were prepared for it. The aunt passed early Sunday morning in peace and with immediate family at her side. The temperature was hitting 40c so the AC was getting a workout. Left Monday and arraived home about 6:30pm. A good run and a bit of over heating with the ute. A short stop with the bonnet up and ok after that and only sitting on 90 klm as it was about 42c outside so the tarmac would have been around 65c. Now to empty the ute as getting a GVM/GCM upgrade on the 20th. Will need to go for a full inspection at the main rego office about 2 weeks after that. Will be heading to Goolwa for a week mid April but also have the fit in another hospital visit for injections to the back nerves. Still high 30c here so hope every one is taking it easy cheers Robert. |
Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Derek on Mar 13th, 2024 at 7:38am
Sorry to hear that. Please pass on Maggie and my condolences to everyone.
We did a run from home to Melbourne once in 40+ heat. What did surprise me was the water in our onboard tank just about boiled. Couldn’t hold my hand under the cold water tap. Didn’t have any issues with the truck itself though fortunately. What increases are you going to take the GVM/GCM up to?? |
Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Bear on Mar 13th, 2024 at 6:55pm
Hi Derek
GVM 3500 TOW 3500 GCM.6600 Old GCM was 6000, this is just to ensure I am in limit as TB is 350 which I am. Not planning On adding more and looking at unloading a bit after more trips and what we do not use. |
Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Derek on Mar 14th, 2024 at 6:46am
That looks pretty good.
|
Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Bear on Mar 14th, 2024 at 7:24am
SA will start pulling vans over and weighing them this year. From what I have read QLD and NSW have started to.
With the push for a National caravan licence I believe they will come down harder. Only takes one state to start and they all will. Cheers |
Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Derek on Mar 14th, 2024 at 3:41pm
They have been regularly doing it here in Qld for two years now. Only though as an educational process.
There have been the occasional fines but mostly just warnings and getting people to move weight around before they let them go. Only a matter of time I reckon before they start the enforcement. I see so many vans on the market with only a few hundred kilos between Tare and ATM. No way could they be legal once the tanks are full of water and food and clothing and personal items are added. |
Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by shackles on Mar 14th, 2024 at 4:13pm
With what I know now I would never buy a secondhand van with out first getting a weigh bridge note.
|
Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Bear on Mar 14th, 2024 at 4:16pm
Yes agree with you, I had mine taken up 400kg higher but once again I do not load up. Just a safety and resale point.
With the upgrade to the ute all points covered but still restricted by the ball weight. Have found after each trip there is always some thing to remove. Cheers Robert |
Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Bear on Jun 7th, 2024 at 9:32am
Yesterdays postI missed
Had the Lovell upgrade to the ute so now sitting in the Lonsdale shed while I have a full rego check. Darn cold as well cheers Robert What a load of bull, inspection went well no problems with the ute. Handed paper work and asked do I just take it into the office. Told no because it is a ute has to be done at a Service SA office. Ok twenty minutes to Seaford, 10 minute wait for opening and here we go. Young bloke looks confused so out the back to his supervisors then back with another form to fill out which required the same information which is on his screen and the two papers I submitted. Finally done, new rego papers issued so no legal. This was done just to ensure I am within the limits, peace of mind for us,have a good day cheers Robert thank you. |

Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Bear on Jun 8th, 2024 at 4:04pm
Putting this here as it forms part of our travelling. When we are at Morgan the men are forming teams and having a scone competition.
I have never done scones so this morning I thought I would give it ago before we leave next week. The recipe calls for butter milk so I made some instead of buying it. I will be doing some more with the commercial butter milk and the two ingredient recipe. Gave the cook 10 minutes more than called for and quite pleased with the results. Nice and crunchy on the outside and soft inside. Topped of with homemade fig jam and whipped cream cheers Robert. ![]() |

Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Bear on Jun 14th, 2024 at 8:53am
Had a good run to Morgan yesterday for a 4 day stay with our group the Carefree Caravaners. Morgan is a small town at the start of the western end of the SA Riverland area. Bit of rain on the way and the usual import people rushing to get nowhere.
Both indicators on the van not working so will be check that out this morning instead of a visit to a local machinery collection. Scone completion on this afternoon. Cheers Robert |

Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Derek on Jul 25th, 2024 at 9:13am
I have usually found that happens after dark. People pull off the road and spy a caravan in their headlights and instead of looking around just head for it.
Also people in cars and little campervans tend to do that, especially overseas visitors. When we were on the way back on our last trip we were on the Newell at a roadside stop. We’re still up watching telly and a tray top ute pulled in and actually circled us before stopping just a few metres away. My first thoughts were, lookout here’s trouble. I cracked the blinds to have a look and a young couple were rolling out a double swag on the tray. They were gone at first light though. Got down to under freezing that night so they must have been a bit cool. I guess they just wanted to be near someone. |

Title: Re: Robert 2024 Post by Bear on Jul 29th, 2024 at 8:52am
Mate we didn’t top up for the run up or down. Filled takes at departure and drinking water containers. Straight run up and down no tourist stuff.
You can use one of the van parks for a night and top up, cooperpedy has a public water point you have to pay. Other than that I do not know, cheers Robert. |

Right hip joint giving trouble and the lower right back. Managed to get a appointment with my surgeon before he heads of end of next week. So hoping Wednesday I will know when he can replace the hip joint. Believe it is creating a fair bit of the trouble with the back. Hard to take when every step is painful andeven affecting your sleep. Cheers Robert |
