This is another thing that has always annoyed me.  Me have the most useless awning.  More of a sun shade than anything else and in any wind it flaps like crazy.

So, off to the big green shed for some webbing and clips and some big key rings.

Measured them all up.  Maggie sewed all the end loops and clips on and hey presto.  Now what seems like a better setup.  Mind you I have stolen the idea off others.

I have a 50mm wide webbing strip right over the awning and replaced the rope tie downs I had previously with 25mm wide webbing.

The tensioning springs I have had sitting around since I had my old campertrailer.

Taken me 7 years to do this.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi Derek,

I have two concerns with the straps idea.

First up the awning will still want to move, so will it rub against the straps?

Next is the straps themselves. Under tension in wind they can oscillate terribly. Can be noisy and again I'd worry about wear. If you have seen straps on loads on trucks you'll understand what I mean.

Having said that, you are unlikely to leave the awning out in such windy conditions.

Like I said, have stolen the idea and have seen it work well before.

I have used ropes for the same idea and never happy with it.

my system was steel hooks hooked onto corners of awning then double guide ropes hooked onto tent pegs in ground
and then  pieces of plastic pool noodle cut and slide over stay ropes so people would not trip over the ropes
I would also put anti flappers on the awning. worked well.
