Well after over 20 years of Toyota's and a Patrol I purchased a Hyundai Terracan Highlander.  It would have to be one of the best 4WD's I've owned....excellent fuel economy (around 8ltrs per 100k's), a very capable off-roader and great value for money.

It tows our Coromal like a dream and has ample enough room to carry our camp oven  Grin  Grin

Here is a pic. of  a place we very reluctantly left. (sept. 2004)
Well, how could anyone leave Utopia?
The truck has proven to be bullet proof, the van had to be made that way.

I carry my camper on a 75 series Landcruiser, all up weight nearly 4 tonne wet. There are very few vehicles on the market nowadays that can carry that sort of load, especially to the places I go. True I had to beef up the suspension but I've done a lot of hard miles without any mechanical problems.
The new HiLux and Nissan tabletops are only rated at 750 kgs carrying capacity so there are very few alternate choices of a replacement vehicle. I priced a new Landcruiser cab/chassis the other day. no change out of $60,000. PHEW, looks like this one will have to last a bit longer.

PD

I have had some really great 4x4's in the past but can't go past the trusty old 75 series
I have added the conopy and use it as my bedroom while camping
I pack all the gear like BBQ, Tarps,Tables etc at the back and the double swag up the front so i can unpack everything and roll the swag out last .
I have found some slippery spots after a night of rain but the old girl just seems to put her head down and crawl out of anywhere

Regards

Mikel, that pic of you pulled up at a gate reminds me of the time we drove out to Chambers Pillar (NT) and when my missus got out to open one of the many gates she found a $10 note. Never had any complaints about having to open gates after that, the only trouble is it takes her so long now, she has to have a good look around. BTW, I did'nt put it there before hand.

KW, yep, she is and has been a completely reliable unit. I had the first 75 series (1985) which over 350,000km. was also totally reliable. We then bought this one (also new) in '97. I dont knock any 4WD but for reliability the 75 in the bush is pretty well unbeatable. I also have a '97 L/R tdi Discovery which over 180000km. has also been 100%, then for my "rough" bush work a '76 L/R 2.25 diesel trayback, also never let me down. We seem to have a fleet here, my wife has an '85 Honda civic which I think seems to be impossible to wear out with well over 250,000km. Hope everyones vehicles give them as good a service.

What's goin' on around here, I also had a HJ75, what a truck, I towed a 21ft Windsor around Australia.  And it also had a canopy with a false floor for remote camping.

I had 2 Hilux's before the HJ75...I kept getting bigger vans which forced me to get the Cruiser, with out a doubt a beautiful truck and I was sorely disappointed when I traded it in to get a "family 4wd"....a SR5 4Runner.

Edit: Just found a pic of mine.

No vehicle is perfect and I've made quite a few modifications to my 75 series to make it a bit more capable. I've put Stratos seats in to keep the navigator happy with a centre console for bits and pieces. A 70 litre water tank under the tray, two long storage drawers at the back also under the tray for tools and recovery gear. Double jerry can carriers both sides for extra fuel (80 litres), Poly Air bags and an extra leaf in the rear springs, the list goes on, last but not least a turbo to help pull all this extra weight along; and it does, I would recommend fitting one if you have'nt got one.
I've done 217,000 and still going well.    Rob

Count yourselves lucky guys.  You've got better buggies over there than over here.  There are too many cosmetic vehicles here.  & a whole bunch who still think the big 3 (GM, Ford, Dodge) are the only companies in the world which can make anything, who don't think Toyota can make a 1-ton truck and don't know it's been out in other parts of the world ahead of North America.  & yet you all are saying your new trucks can do less.  ?????

I just went and checked www.toyota.ca and they have a glitzy bunch of vague teasers rather saying wait until January,  2007.  I'm still envious of what you all have.
