This is a request for a waffle/pancake recipe. My wife says all mixes are basically the same and the packet ones are OK. I just wonder if you have a special one your mother taught you that you will share. A request on another site got me NOTHING ! Rob

Without getting into all the additives issues, are there bulk food stores in Oz?

These are quite common here in Canada.  The health food era brought us the first ones, but now the trend is for 'bulk' food stores where the good stuff is mixed in with bought mixes (which have all the additives, preservatives......)

The point is we don't have to pay for all that fancy packaging and, if we know are way around, we can buy healthy food without paying extra.  That's where I get all those dried fruits that I use in Derek's Christmas Cake recipe.

What I'm saying is:  why do you pay for packaged mixes?

Hi Rob

Not a waffle person myself but have a look at this:

http://www.bbonline.com/recipe/waffles.html

This one looks good, mainly cause I love oats.  Grin

Wedgewood Waffles presented by Wedgewood Cottage Bed & Breakfast Inn

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup quick oats
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
6 tablespoons melted butter
2 tablespoons brown sugar

Combine flour, oats, baking powder and cinnamon in small bowl and set aside. In larger bowl, combine eggs, milk, melted butter, and brown sugar. Fold in the dry ingredients and mix well. Depending on the size of waffle maker used, use 1/2 cup for each waffle. Serve with your favorite warmed syrup. Makes 5-6 waffles.

as a waffle and pancake lover i find being made from scratch or packet recipe to be as good as each other ;the advantage of packet is that they store and they are easy to carry also you can usually buy them anywhere i find cooking them on the lid of the campoven to be the best for taste yummy cheers cb[b

G'day camperbear, I agree, when you're on the road you need to keep things simple so I usually go with the pancake mix in a plastic container, add water and shake, if you want fancy you can add spices or whatever you like. I like waffles so I don't put as much water in, serve with jam and cream if you've got it,  real good for the waistline.      Rob.

This is a good site http://www.bbonline.com/recipe/waffles.html ; but I see that Derek has already posted it. Waffles are a mainstay in our house hold on Sat.mornings.Going on my fourth or fifth waffle iron in twenty plus  yrs. Anything you can think up to eat you can almost mix with a wafffle. Enjoy   Wink
