Hi LK

An Essex is a brand of vehicle used pre 2nd WW days and MtIsa mines Silver Copper Gold etc very large mine in Nth Western part of the state The area where the photos were taken is a major Dinasaur discovery area thats what the statues and signs are all about the dig areas extend front the gulf right through to Winton and Muttaburra Winton is also a big opal mining area.
The whole area is volcanic non active and as a result is a major source of most types of mining activity
Cheers Furphy

Now, PD, you've told me more than all the pics together.  It thought it all looked like nice pleasant country.  But 'smell the dust', no I don't associate that with 'pleasant'.

Cool
